The origin of 13 is zero when counting forward from nothing. Do you mean what is the origin of the superstition behind the number 13? If so then it is believed to do with the execution order issued by the King of France for all Knights Templar members. It was to be carried out (in secret) on Friday the 13th. Check out the movie 13 with Jim Carey.

its a number in theory, but its also a prime number (7th if you count 1), and a fibonacci number (7th). There's a geometric correlation as well. You might want to look at a 3 dimensional tree of life/sepiroth, you'll see not 10, or 11, but 13 points of interest.
