That would be a sum because you have a plus sign.

3 sqrt(2) + 8 sqrt(2) is the same as 3 * sqrt(2) + 8 * sqrt(2).

The distributive property says we can pull out the common sqrt(2):

= (3 + 8) * sqrt(2)
= 11 * sqrt(2)

So the answer is simply 11 radical 2

It might be easier to see this if you just think of sqrt(2) as x. Then the question becomes, what is the sum of 3x and 8x... which you can easily see is 11x.

Answer: 11√2
