i tried finding the derivative of x^3 +2x2+2. i try it on the calculator and it gives me the derivative at a certain point. so it gives me a numerical value.

i know that the derivative of x^3 +2x2+2 is. i know that its 3x^2+4x. i just want to find out how to find it in this format instead of a numerical value on the calculator.

thanks.

I have this science project that is an imaginary space station. You can think of it as a mini Earth. It is same as Earth, but it is just a space station and is much smaller. (Has less species of animals/plants :) ...)

MY question is what does it mean to describe the path of energy and matter through living systems and the physical environment?? I get the energy, they are passed by eating but what is matter? How can matter be passed????? To illustrate the path of energy/matter how should I draw it out? By using a food web or what?

The pilot of a small boat measures and determines that the angle of elevation of the the top of a lighthouse is 19°. The Lighthouse reaches 21m above sea level. Find the distance between the boat and the lighthouse.

I don't know which function to use because when I draw the right angle the problem doesn't tell you which is x and which is y.

I just thought about this. Stupid question some would say; a brain killer to others.

The graph of x/x should be similar to the graph of 1, but since there's a variable in the denominator, then the domain for x/x is all real numbers except x=0.

Therefore, there is a 'hole' at x=0 on the graph of x/x, whereas the graph of 1 is continuous everywhere. Now, it is said that anything divided by itself is equal to one, but how about the case of x/x?

If you simplify x/x, it would be equal to one, but by leaving it as is, it isn't quite the same.

Anyhow, just a matter I thought would be interesting to point out.

And no, I'm not on crack, thank you.

Calculating the Determination of Water in a Hydrate????HELP!!!?

Here are the weights:

Weight of crucible and cover = 12.85grams
Weight of crucible, cover and sample = 16.21grams
Weight of crucible, cover and sample after first heating = 14.82grams
Weight of crucible, cover and sample after second heating = 14.74grams
Weight of crucible, cover and sample after third heating = 14.72 grams

My chemistry teacher wants me to find the calculations of these samples above. I have no F'in idea if I am right or wrong when I am working out this problem.

I think the formula is Percentage of water=(mass lost divided by mass of sample) and then you multiply it by 100.

Here are the directions for the calculations:

Calculate weight of original sample
Numerical setup:

Calculate weight lost from sample by heating
Numerical setup:

Calculate percentage of water in sample
Numerical setup:

For this one, it also asks:

sample No._____
Percentage of water_____
