& 56°17' (angle measure) to degree.

Another trig ?:

When you solve right angles how do you know which side is x and y. How do you know which function to use such as tan, sin, cos? THANKS!

the 0.56th of a degree is multiplied by 60 to get minutes. The 17 minutes are less than 30 minutes, so you would round down to 56 degrees.

"x" and "y" are assignments that you make for a particular problem. The tangent, sine and cosine are defined in terms of a right triangle's set-up, and you would decide which to use based on the data you are given and what you need to find. There is no way to tell that in advance. So it is practice, practice, practice.

Unfortunately, I can only answer your second one.

Heard of SOHCAHTOA?

SOH = Sine = (Opposite/Hypotenuse)
-- sine is also often referred to as the "y" trig function

CAH = Cosine = (Adjacent/Hypotenuse)
-- cosine is the "x" trig function

TOA = Tangent = (Opposite/Adjacent)
-- tangent is the "y/x" trig function (which is also the slope of the line formed by the terminal side of an angle with the x-axis as one of its legs)

Now, for solving angles, simply evaluate which sides of the triangle you are given. Then, pick whether youre going to use sin^-1, cos^-1, or tan^-1 depending on where your right angle is located.

It is quite hard to explain in writing, but if I am able to explain it in person (and with pen and paper) then it would be easier.

Anyhow, hope this helps even just a bit.

for 1st 2 question use your calculator
when you want to change 23.56 degree
put 23.56degree and then press =
you gets your answer that is 23degree and 34 minute

THE answer for 56 degree 17minute is 56.283 degree

(put 6deg.and 17 minute into your calculator and then press = for this answer comes 56 deg. and 17min. then press switch of degree and minute on your calculator then you can get your answer)

x axis is adjacent which can be written as A
y axis is opposite which can be written as O
and other left side of triangle is called Hypotenuse which can be written as H

in the term of function you need to remember a formula which is SOH CAH TOA
SOH - S= sin
O=Opposite
H= Hypotenuse
CAH- C=cos
A=adjacent
H=hypotenuse
TOA - T=Tan
O =opposite
A=adjacent

23.56° = 23° + .56*60' = 23° + 33.6'
= 23° + 33' + .6*60"
= 23° + 33' + 10"
= 23° 33' 10"

56°17' = 56 + (17/60)*100 = 56.2833333°

Take out the fraction and multiply by60 minutes/degree
ans. 33.6 So it's 23degrees33.6minutes

With 56degrees17minutes, take out 17, divide by 60 to get the decimal degree 17/60, .283 and you have 56.283 deg.

Think of rise, run and hypotenuse.
vertical rise is usually y
horizontal run is x
hypotenuse is h
tangent of an angle is rise over run
sine is rise over hypotenuse
cosine is run over hypotenuse

23 degrees + .56 degrees =
23 degrees + 0.56degrees*(60min/1deg) =
23 degrees + 34 minutes.

X axis is adjacent
Y Axis is opposite
cos is adjacent divided by Hypotenuse
Sin is opposite divided by hypotenuse
tan is opposite divided by adjacent
