1) Oil spilled from a ruptured tanker spreads in a circle at a constant rate of 6 miles^2/hr. How fast is the radius of the spill increasing when the area is 9mi^2?

2) a 17 ft ladder is leaning against a wall. If the bottom of the ladder is pulled along the ground away from the wall at a constant rate of 5 ft/sec., how fast will the top of the ladder be moving down the wall when it is 8 ft above the ground?

If anybody can answer these questions and explain step by step in detail, you are a genius!!

I had abdominal surgery several years ago. I no longer live near the surgeon who performed the surgery. The surgery was to remove abnormal tissue but the tissue was not cancerous.

The scar resulting from the procedure is an inch thick (rope-like) that stretches from one hip bone to the other. I'm not concerned with the appearance of the scar but it causes me physical discomfort.

Since the surgery, I gained 20 pounds (I don't know if that is relevant) to the discomfort caused by the scar. I'm not significantly overweight and I exercise three times per week.

The scar feels like a rope pulling tight from hip bone to hip bone. It isn't bothersome when I'm physically active but when I sit done to read or watch TV it is so distracting and uncomfortable I cannot relax.

I'm concerned that my insurance would consider any surgical treatment cosmetic and not covered the procedure so I would first like to first a try non-invasive treatment.

I know a bit about physics, nothing much, but I am having trouble deciding what to study. Can anyone suggest a sort of guideline that covers the whole field?

Also, while I am asking this question. Can you do the same but just covering fundamental physics at a more detailed level?(fundamental particles, the forces, etc.)
