A 120 page book has 'p' lines to a page. If the number of lines were reduced by three on each page the number of pages would need to be increase by 20 to give the same amount of writing space. How many lines were there on the page originally?

Could you plz explain how you got the answer? Thanks a lot

there are some companies that claim they can do some tests to find out what you should eat and how you should lead your life in order to stay healthy...but then again whatever these companies claim isn't true half of the time? do you think all these biotech companies are running all the tests for the sake of a lucrative bussiness and money making scheme? what about those people who aren't that well informed on these nutrigenetics that they actually just go and get the tests done though they know nothing about it?

we just blindly believe that those white dots in the sky are burning balls of gas that emit radiation, and then we see the pictures on tv/internet, but how do we know its not something else? im not a conspiracy theorist, i think we did go to the moon and that the flag could have waived since there is a small atmosphere, but i just wonder about stars. and other planets.

A Peg-bag of mass m hanging from a washing line may be modelled as a particle suppored in equilibrium by two straight strings inclined at angles x and y to the horizontal, as shown in the diagram.
Find the tension in each string when: m=0.5, x=10 degrees and y=12 degrees

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w111/suned05/Tension.jpg

I Think you need to find the weight of the particle by doing 0.5*9.8=4.9 therefore the conbined tension of the 2 strings= 4.9, and using the sine or cosine rule find out how it splits but I have no idea- anyone?

As 10 to the power of 2 is equal to 100,there fore logarithm of 100 to the base 10 is equal 2.In the same analysis log 3 to the base 10 is 0.4771 as per log tables. Now how this figure of 0.4771 was discovered by Napier.Similarly, how the figures for log of other numbers were calculated/discovered by Napier.
