Scotland/Scottish islands can be quite pretty if it is cold and you get sunshine and snow on the mountains. If not, it could be very miserable. Lots of places may be closed as it is the off-season. Also days will still be quite short - dark by 5.30. Channel islands will be warmer(relatively), but again could be really miserable if the weather is bad.

Well, the Norwegians (rather unwillingly) ceded both places to Scotland after they lost a war. So technically, they are a part of the Kingdom of Scotland. Should Scotland lose its' status as a monarchy, however (i.e. if they become independent and later exit the Commonwealth), the islands will be returned to their original owners. Or, *should*, I don't think neither Scotland or Norway would remember that. England has no claim whatsoever to the islands apart from as a part of Scotland. So if they don't want to be a part of Scotland, they can of course leave, maybe rejoin Norway. Scotland wouldn't be thrilled, though, especially as long as they still have the legal dominion there. Just think of all the oil fields that would be lost if Norway's territorial waters moved all over there.
