A cyclist Amoves with a speed 3.0 m/s to the left(with respect to the road). A second cyclist, B, moves on the same straight-line path as A with a relative velocity of 1.0 m/s with respect to A. What is the velocity of B with respect to the road. And a third cyclist has a relative velocity with respect to A of -2.0m/s. Whatis the velocity of C with respect to the road?

*What does it mean when it says "What is the velocity of B with RESPECT TO THE ROAD" and "A third cyclist has a RELATIVE VELOCITY WITH RESPECT TO A OF -2.0 m/s. WHAT IS THE VELOCITY OF C WITH RESPECT TO THE ROAD", specifically the capatilized parts

And also how do you solve the questions

How does the slingshot effect work to gain speed? I understand how a body's gravity will accelerate a craft on approach, but won't it take away just as much momentum on departure?

Hi,
I have this eqn for normal distribution:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5906/mathxj4.gif
I need to integrate this and then form a function which inputs x and outputs the value of a i.e. f(x) = a NOT f(a)=x
Thanks.

Choose the the compound with the greatest positional entropy in each case.

a. 1 mol H2 (at STP) or 1 mol H2 (at 100 degrees C, 0.5 atm)

b. 1 mol N2 (at STP) or 1 mol N2 (at 100 K, 2.0 atm)

c. 1 mol H20 (s) (at 0 degrees C) or 1 mol H2O(l) (at 20 degrees C)

How do you know which has a greater positional entropy? Is there a way to determine this?

Help me please!

Taking into account the heat of combustion for octane (and its equation):

C8H18(l) + 25/2 O2(g) --> 8CO2(g) + 9H2O(g) ΔH= -5472

And, the heat of combustion for the following reactions:

H2(g) + 1/2 O2(g) --> H2O(g) ΔH= -242 kJ

8C(s) + 9H2(g) --> C8H18 ΔH= ?

C(s) + O2(g) --> CO2(g) ΔH= -394 kJ

Thanks in advance for your help!

I had to do a math activity in school, and I'm looking for the name of the manipulatives. There are 10 pieces. I think they are shaped in hexagons. You would connect the lines to make a shape. You would start with one, two, and three. Then go to one, two, three, and four, and so on. The colors of the lines were red, blue, and yellow. Plz help if you know what they are called!!!

I have calculated the distance from the Equator to the satellite to be 35,848 km. I know that the radius of the Earth is 6,378 km. Using the Pythagorean Theorem, I calculated a hypotenuse of 36,411 km.

But I am asked to determine above and below which latitudes the satellite cannot see, and this is where I'm stuck. When I solve for the angle using trig identities, I get 10 degrees...which obviously isn't correct.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you!!!

2.) It has sides of two different lengths
3.) One of its angles measures 135 degrees.
4.) Another of its angles is congruent to the angle in clue 3
5.) The angles in clues 3 and 4 are not consecutive angles
6.) Its other angles are larger than acute but smaller than obtuse
7.) It has two sides that are parallel
8.) It has ten pairs of angles

Next.....
1.) It is a polygon
2.) Some of its angles measure 120 degrees
3.) Its other angles measure 150 degrees
4.) Its sides aren't congruent
5.) It has an even number of both measures of angles
6.) Its smaller angles are consecutive angles
