White line express' answer is potentially life threatening to you. Depression is not something to take lightly. While some people report feeling better with taking herbal remedies like St John's Wort, they are not regulated well enough to give you a consistent dose strength. Unrecognized and undertreated depression is a time bomb waiting to happen. If you at all feel that your are clinically depressed, I URGE you to seek medical help immediately. If you are concerned about the cost, or your privacy, there are any number of free and confidential services available in your town. Try the phonebook under mental health services for starters. Good Luck to you.

It IS possible that her GP is prescribing her Prozac for that long. She may not be stable enough/ready to come off it. Ten years is a long time to be on them but don't dismiss it. Many Gp's will continue to prescribe if it is doing the job. You cannot buy it without prescription. There are some herbal remedies that are said to be good for depression though.

yes..they are only for sale by legal physicians prescription only..
although there are ome natural/herbal supplements that you can purchase without a prescription that have been proven to work better than prescriptions ( for some people who have tried them ) and do not carry the bad side effects..
Go get a bottle of St.Johns Wort at your local pharmacy or Wallmart..try it out for 2 to 3 weeks ( same time frame as a prescription to get the full benefit ) ..
There are many people who claim it works wonders without having to disclose your personal information to a doctor...

yes you do,I believe Prozac is a controlled substance, meaning: one of the drugs that should be dispersed by a prescription coz it may cause physiological or psychological addiction.
