I need to know when the function is increasing/decreasing and when relative maxima and minima occur, without sketching the graph. I know you do this by finding the derivative and setting it to equal zero, however I am not getting proper x values. Here are the fuctions I need help with:

Relative Extrema:
1) y = x^3-6x^2 + 12x - 6

2) y= 3x/2x+5

3) y= xlnx

Absolue Extrema:
4) f(x) = x ^4/3, [-8,8]

Thank you.

If three resistors are placed in parallel branches and powered by a 12-volt battery, then the voltage drop across each one of the three resistors is 12 volts. A charge flowing through the circuit would only encounter one of these three resistors and thus encounter a single voltage drop of 12 volts.

if it flows in only one branch how come all the bulbs have lit up?

i can't really understand parthenocarpy. How do these kind of fruits develop, and how could they reproduce without seeds. I don't understand the concept of spores either. So far, they're the only structures I know for asexual reproduction. Does this relate to parthenocarpy? Please, help. Thank you very much... I will appreciate if you give an answer and an explanation why, of course.

In an insulated vessel, 250g of ice at 0 degC is added to 600g of water at 18 degC.

a) What is the final temperature of the system?
b) How much ice remains when the system reaches equilibrium?

For a, the correct answer is 0 degC, however I got a final temperature of 15.1 degC. I do not understand how 0 degC was achieved.

A 42.5-kg chair is attached to a spring and allowed to oscillate. When the chair is empty the chair takes 1.30 s to make one complete vibration. But with a person sitting in it, with her feet off the floor, the chair now takes 2.54 s for one cycle.

What is the mass of the person?

I am learning how to solve range in school, and I am having a lot of difficulty learning how to do so. I have two problems that I have to show work for, but somehow, I keep getting the wrong answers:

radical (4 - x^2) FIND RANGE

I keep getting (- infinity, 2] when the answer is supposed to be [2, infinity)

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

I can't get this one either: radical (x^2 + 4). Here the answer is [2, infinity)

Please help
