In school we are taught formulas to solve different kind of problems/equations.

Do professional mathematicians solve these problem (or from more complex fields of math) by calculating with a pen and paper or do they use advanced calculators or special software like Mathematica?

I am a snow lover. When winter arrives I am checking the forecast on a DAILY basis, hoping for a chance of snow. This winter....forget it!!! Temperatures have been averaging 10 degrees above normal. It is almost January and it is 50 degrees! I hate this. It's winter, for christ sake. How about some snow??? Someone with a background in meteorology PLEASE explain to me what is causing the above normal temps in this region and giving us boring rain...and NO SNOW!!!

And how come every time the temps drop below freezing, the skies miraculously clear up. But as soon as precip moves in, surprise surprise the temps rise and we get nothing but rain!!! Very frustrating!!!

I am 32 and have lived in MD all my life. I am used to having cold spells with snow, then warmer temps and a melt down to prepare us for the next snow. And historically February is our snowiest month. But when you see Denver getting 2 big snows in a week and nothing but rain here it gets frustrating!! CRAP!

You have two vessels connected via tiny pipes to each other and to a pressurized container of "Ideal Gas". The two vessels are "insulated" and their temperature can be changed and maintained at any constant value. When you fill them with the gas, both vessels are at the same temperature. When filled to a desired pressure, you close off the supply container and a while later, close off both vessels (equal pressure in both vessels). Next, you change the temperature of one of them (for the sake of argument: you heat it) while maintaining the other at the original temperature. When you open valves to connect the two vessels to each other and let the pressures reach steady state value(s) what is the relation between pressure in the "colder" vessel to the pressure in the "warmer" vessel?
I do know the answer, and have even verified the theoretical predictions by experiments, I just want to see if you can determine the answer.

Do we have odors even when we're clean?. I've never smelled a weird odor in anyone "clean" before. But I heard some people say that some black people say we "white people" smell. and some white people say that black people smell-- I don't mean to be racist, So please don't get mad at me :). All I'm trying to say is, do human beings smell, but it takes someone from another race to actually smell it?

There is a certain point on a hill in a place in Kenya near its capital where water when poured, it flow up hill instead of flowing down hill. The norm would be for it to flow down hill due to the action of gravity on the weight of this water. What would be the cause of such a behaviour.
Coincidently, there is another point near the rift valley in Kenya where cars are found to accelarate themselves uphill, what would cause such a mysterious force.

Given thats z = 1 + i is one root of
P(z) = z^3 - 4z^2 + 6z - 4 = 0

find the other two roots.

plz help, this is what i have done so far

if z = 1 + i and is a root of P(z), then the complex conjugate is (1 - i) and therefore this is also a root.

Now this becomes [z-(1 + i)] and the other [z-(1 - i)]

therefore [z-(1 + i)] [z-(1 - i)] (z - a)

(z - 1 - i) (z - 1 + i) (z - a)

[(z - 1)^2 - (i)^2] (z - a)

[(z - 1)^2 -(-1)] (z - a)

[(z - 1)^2 + 1] (z - a)

(z^2 - 2z + 1) (z - a)

Now how do i find the value of (a) from here, and the other root, plz explain step by step!

==============================...

Question below do answer plz, Answer at the back of the specialist book says (1 - i) and 2

Does this mean the first root was given and the second root was the conjugate and the third root, a = 2 which just means z = 2 ??
