Purely in terms of pounds exerted per square-inch, I believe the strongest bite recorded of any living animal belongs to the Great White Shark.

The damage inflicted by a bite is not just a matter of jaw strength, however. The shape of the teeth, placement, leverage exerted by position, and a host of other factors come into the equation as well.

A Great White's teeth are admirably suited for slicing huge chunks of flesh out of their victim - but are not so good at crushing (like a hyena or parrotfish), or precise application of piercing damage to a vital part of the anatomy (like cats).

I thought the Hyena had the strongest bite force in the animal kingdom, but upon further research I found that the correct answer is the American Alligator. Check out the article below for my source.

An analysis of mammalian bite force, corrected for body size, shows that the devil has the strongest bite of any living mammal. The power of the jaw is in part due to its comparatively large head. A Tasmanian Devil also has one set of teeth that grows slowly throughout its life.

As for pound per square inch of strength in the jaw, the number one creature with the most powerful jaw/muscles is the white shark. It is followed up by the pit bull.
