I came across this term in a book, but couldn't find it or anything related to it in any other book. Can someone please help??
The question in the book was:
Specify two conditions in which photorespiration may take place in green plants.

I think photorespiration means -respiration by plants in the presence of sunlight.
Is that right??

This sounds really stupid (especially from someone who got an A in Physics at A-Level), but I understand it as both.

All mass has gravity. Therefore the huge mass of the earth exerts a force on us, pulling us into it. Gravity is therefore a force.

We have weight due to gravity. This is equal to our mass multiplied by the acceleration due to gravity. BUT if you assume the Earth is not spinning, when we are standing on the ground, we are not accelerating towards the centre of the Earth.

Of course, the Earth is actually spinning, which creates centripetal force, and so we are accelerating towards the centre of the Earth. BUT the geometric poles (i.e. not magnetic poles) do not have any centripetal force, and yet gravity and weight still apply there. So is gravity the acceleration due to the Earth spinning? Or is that something else?

This is a question I often discuss with my friends over a pint, and sort of is philosophical as well as about biology. The question is thus:

Do we die because our bodies fail and cannot cope with the strain and duress of continued existence, or is death something our bodies are designed to do?

I know that when for instance, the body is strangled or choking the body reacts by sacrificing cells of less important organs for air to keep a supply reaching the brain. (hence why lips go blue) - this suggests that the body fights against death.

I also know that hormones are released on the point of death, suggesting this is something the body is designed for and a process it has 'within it', like respiration.

So I am unsure and wodnered what people think.

I would prefer to concentrate on the biologoical side of things, as its obvious that people have to die for reasons of population and I am not interested in the theological aspect either.

Thanks in advance
