I'm in university doing a B.A. in Pure Math, one year away from graduation. I've got a 4.0 gpa, near the top of my class, doing honours and all that, blah blah blah blah. The thing is: I'm not interested in doing math as a career, but I feel kind of trapped by my degree. My profs are no good for advice, because they all just went straight to grad school, and then went straight into teaching.

I mean, math is a great thing to study, but I'm not a diehard, and I don't want to be.

Any of you math grads have advice for me?

I was on an all night road trip last night and spent hours watching them in the sky! It was nothing short of spectacular and I couldn't remember the last time I had seen them! I even remembered the proper name, "Aurora Borealis!"

To me, the sight almost seems 'divine.' It fills me with wonder and anticipation, just as it did when I was a child!

How do you feel when you see them?

For those who haven't... here are a couple of links:
The first one is almost exactly the same as what I saw!

If u could time-travel and go back to the past, and then u got killed while u were visiting the past, how is it that u existed at all in the present? or if u killed ur own grandparents in the past, how would still have been able to exist to do that in the first place?

99% of the Carbon on Earth is of the isotope Carbon 12, which has a half life of 50,000 years. Since the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, why is there still so much of it left? Wouldn't there be just a small fraction of it left? This may sound like a dumb question, but I've always wondered. Also, what happens to it when it decays and becomes radioactive?

The CERN Courier states that creating nano-blackholes (NBHs) is safe because higher energy collisions happen naturally. If one considers the conservation of momentum, wouldn't thusly formed NBHs have to either absorb relatively enormous amounts of mass to stay with the earth, or always rapidly move through the earth and escape?

Isn't their argument for safety therefore invalid, since they either must grow so fast thet they'd swallow the earth in short order or they simply couldn't stay to begin with (as CERN created NBHs would)?
