That means, what we know now, and the technologies we have, and the way of life each of us have now, would that make any difference? Say this event happened while the astronauts were in space or on the moon, what would be their destiny upon knowing what happened to earth?

I'm an Astrophysicist trying to switch more into engineering because that's what I've really enjoyed on my previous assignment.. However, once I got my MS I haven't been able to find a job and it's been almost 2 yrs. In some places I was told straight out that they want only men to work there.. What gives? Why do we still have to deal with prejudice these days when everyone else is seemingly progressing past such stupidity?!!! All schools are encouraging women to go into sciences and engineering, but when you get out in the working world you don't get a chance to show what you're capable of...

I believe that it is only a matter of time that we will be visited by beings from another planet. Will they be hostile or friendly? Have we made any preparations for setting up communication with them? Do you believe in the "ant box" concept that we are some sort of toy or object of study by beings of superior intelligence? Do you feel that your country's scientists are already in contact with them?
