That means, what we know now, and the technologies we have, and the way of life each of us have now, would that make any difference? Say this event happened while the astronauts were in space or on the moon, what would be their destiny upon knowing what happened to earth?

your asking a very complex and multi layer question! to move backwards in time would require some "rip" in the continuum and accruing to physicists like tom Siegfried, its unlikely that we could travel back. Because time is curved, the theory behind time travel allows the traveler to hop between dimensions during that same time plan. look at it like a three layer cake. lots of ingredient to make the layers but after its baked you cant remove the sugar or eggs. if each layer where a different flavor(dimension) you could cut(travel) into each one on the way down to the plate but not all at the same time. after the slice was removed ( the created rip) and eaten, then the rest of the layers would move in to fill in the missing "time" and the dimension would close and no one would be the wiser. so if this happened, we in our present life and knowledge would cease to be and what ever time it stopped at would start from that moment. the astronauts would have to travel via a black hole or time riff not to suffer the same fate. time is a blanket that covers the infinite. great question!

Well the big bang theory would say if they earth went back in time it would get closer to the center of the universe which would break its orbit with the sun and life would cease to exist.

I suppose they wouldn't know it happened. But if they did, they'd be screwed in coming back home.
