Just wondering if this theory had any merit. Or if this was just another problem invented for the purpose of supporting laws against its use?

Marijuana does not cause amotivational syndrome. Marijuana users are often lazy WHILE they are high and sometimes for a couple hours after, but this does affect their sober life.

As a smoker, allow me to answer your question. I've been doing nothing but sitting at home and smoking the ganj for years now, hasn't made me lazy yet.
