This is the Alpha-FetaProtein screening that is done from 15-20 weeks. A blood sample is taken, and according to that, they tell you whether or not your baby may have down syndrome, Anencephaly (missing brain), or Spina Bifida. The thing is, even if my baby has any of these "defects", I will not have an abortion. Not to mention that out of 10 people, only one person has accurate results. The worst part, to confirm the test, they perform an amnio. The chances of you losing your baby after the amnio are greater than that of the AFP results being accurate. So, you may be putting a perfectly healthy baby at risk for miscarriage for no reason at all.
Have any other moms decided against this test? I am 15 weeks 5 days pregnant, and I don't want to do it because I will not an abortion even if something is wrong with my baby. Any comments/suggestions? What do you ladies think?
