Is it possible to object to the war– the Iraq War– without being told I, “Hate the troops”, “aid the enemy”, “am a hippy” ???? etc etc etc.

For the Supporters of the War, is there anyway, in your mind, an intelligent, thoughtful and responsible citizen could object to the war since its inception? If so, how?

I guess that would mean he had them, but he got rid of them. If that is true, why didn't he make a show about getting rid of them, and end the sanctions against him? Is he the kind of guy to have a weapon, and get rid of it without getting anything in return?

The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran "requests the pleasure" of my company to dine with H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The dinner is at the Intercontinental Hotel — with names carefully written out at all the place settings around a rectangular table. There are about 50 of us, academics and journalists mostly. There's Brian Williams across the room, and Christiane Amanpour a few seats down. And at a little after 8pm, on a day when he has already addressed the U.N., the evening after his confrontation at Columbia, a bowing and smiling Mahmoud Admadinejad glides into the room.

Does ANYONE take those boobs seriously?

Why do schoolchildren have mock UN's and model UN's when they can just watch the farce in real life?

Why on earth is anyone enamored by a collection of unelected, unaccountable, trust fund brats discussing what they are directed to discuss by third world despots and socialist ninnies?

The facts of the case are this, after his testimony, it was found out he was never in the service. He was a poster child for Moveon, Iran and Al Qaeda for a while. But then it was found out he was never in the service. He was convicted under "Operation Stolen Valor".

Should he have gotten off scott free or should his punishment have been more severe?

This man was elected through fair democratic elections on his idea's of helping the poor. A noble ideal if i ever heard of 1. Yet still the USA still dislike this man because instead of the rich controlling the oil in his country, he has put measures in to see this wealth helping the poor. Just because rich westerners will have to pay more for their oil, the americans have vilified him as some enemy.

And lets not forget, the USA did bank-roll a coup to over-throw his democraticly elected government and after his government was over-thrown, a washington spokesman backed the coup.

What happened to the USA striving for freedom?

Maybe its time the yanks reliesed that its the people of a country who matter, not what the americans want

The Democrats were elected with a mandate to end the war, which they could do by withholding funding. They wouldn't need a veto-proof majority, or even a simple majority. As long as they had 40 votes in the Senate, they could stop the war immediately by filibustering the war spending bills.

By the way, don't tell me about "supporting the troops". Funding the war means leaving the troops in harm's way in Iraq. Blocking the funding means they come home where they're safe. The money supports the war, not the troops.

“United in diversity” is the motto of the European Union. What this motto means in terms of Europe’s positioning in the world, however, is for Europeans to determine.

So what values and political priorities make Europeans distinct from the rest of the world?

My political question was:

"Hey liberals; how does it feel to know we are winning in Iraq?"

There were more then 30 responses to the question and I even picked a best answer but when I looked in my history its deleted. So I go to my email and there is no message from yahoo as to why this message was deleted?

Is this political censorship on their part?

So apparently with this administration, it's not enough to send them half way around the world .. subject them to possible death or dismemberment .. force them into tour after tour .. while denying them a equal period of time home between tours.

This wouldn't happen if even some of U.S. soldiers hailed from the rich families. The burden of this war falls squarely on the backs of the poor and middle classes. Sure, it's a volunteer army and these young men and women enlist through their local recruiters. But for many in the poor and middle classes, military service is the only way to get a decent education.

You've already been caught with the Walter Reed scandal, after which time you grandstanded and promised to fix things. Why don't we send some senators kids over there to fight .. we would see some rapid changes then.

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Robert Gates will ask Congress Wednesday to approve nearly $190 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008, increasing initial projections by more than a third.

In remarks prepared for a Senate hearing, Gates says the extra money is necessary to buy vehicles that can protect troops against roadside bombs, refurbish equipment worn down by combat and consolidate U.S. bases in Iraq. A copy of the remarks was obtained by The Associated Press.

In that prepared testimony, Gates said, "I know that Iraq and other difficult choices America faces in the war on terror will continue to be a source of friction within the Congress, between the Congress and the president and in the wider public debate."

"Considering this, I would like to close with a word about something I know we can all agree on — the honor, courage and great sense of duty we have witnessed in our troops since September 11th," his testimony said.

LEAVE DUBYA ALONE!!!! GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure the present situation, a long struggle with ups and downs, would be the last choice for many.

So, what do we do?

I don't agree with Samuelson's solution - I would not kick the illegals out - - - also I don't know that it would work, since there's a lot of poor LEGAL immigration too.

And I think it's clear that even the poor immigrants themselves do ultimately move up.

So don't kick them out - - - but can we all try to stop the Paul Krugman crowd from falsely using their numbers to make it sound like there's a fixed population some of which is BECOMING poor????

I mean on a GROSS level there will be shifts - someone loses a job, typically in a sector long-troubled like auto, etc.... But on a NET basis, DOMESTICALLY poverty is declining at a pretty good pace.

Again, if you wnat to let them stay, fine, let them - but don't use their numbers to make false assertions that the rising tide isn't lifting all the boats that were already in the harbor!!!!
