Doesn't that mean the poor AREN'T getting poorer????

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20603729/site/newsweek/?from=rss

I don't agree with Samuelson's solution - I would not kick the illegals out - - - also I don't know that it would work, since there's a lot of poor LEGAL immigration too.

And I think it's clear that even the poor immigrants themselves do ultimately move up.

So don't kick them out - - - but can we all try to stop the Paul Krugman crowd from falsely using their numbers to make it sound like there's a fixed population some of which is BECOMING poor????

I mean on a GROSS level there will be shifts - someone loses a job, typically in a sector long-troubled like auto, etc.... But on a NET basis, DOMESTICALLY poverty is declining at a pretty good pace.

Again, if you wnat to let them stay, fine, let them - but don't use their numbers to make false assertions that the rising tide isn't lifting all the boats that were already in the harbor!!!!

And libsticker, exposing and explaining such gamesmanship with numbers is what I'm trying to do.

We import 300,000 or so poor "households" per year and median household income growth is slow.......

We import a million poor people while the total number of poor people goes up by 1/4 million.......

The games-players are the ones who say "see there's more poverty, it's because of the Bush tax cuts."

No - people are escaping poverty at the fastest rate ever. Between poor and middle class there is a glut - because we keep importing poor people who are uneducated thus they can escape poverty but have trouble rising more than 2-3 rungs up the ladder. Meanwhile people are moving from the middle class to the affluent class also at the fastest rate ever. That's all GOOD!

Damn, nice analogy, "boats and tide"...

You can play a lot of games with numbers, numbers don't lie, people that use numbers do. I can run a statistic on just about any argument known to man and have the numbers to support it. Depends on what results I am looking for. For instanced, 2 out of 3 dentists recommend Crest. 2 out of three dentists recommend Colgate.... Both hold true. How can this be? Well because Dentists recommend toothpaste,,,, Crest and Colgate are both toothpastes.

Edit: Truth, I know, I was supporting your thesis, and believe it to be accurate. I still like your analogy, I will use that one in the future....:)

Edit #2: How come the liberals didn't jump on this question, I am surprised by the lack of answers. I am going to give you a star so I can refer to this question in the future. By then I will have removed this edit. Libsticker

Providing it used to be used for that intent and executive did not waste it. It might even be used to pay for a fence, wall and many others on our boarder.
