I'm not asking this to disrespect your views but to try and understand them. I'm a foreigner, and I just can't understand why people still support Bush. There's the war in Iraq, which isn't making the world safer that I can tell, there's the economy, which isn't great, there's what seems from the outside to be an erosion of the human rights that makes America 'the land of the free'. Not to mention what's going on in Guantanamo Bay. Torture, plain and simple.

Please explain reasons for voting Republican... I'm genuinely curious, and open to being persuaded. Thank you.

How does a man like this stay in office?

2006-11-17 07:36:17 · 16 answers · asked by Dr. NG 7

His name seems to ring of bad connotations...

but he did so many things to benefit the country...

He opened talks with china
He ended vietnam
He put control on violent movements (eg black panthers)

admittedly on the other side, he commited the prime sin any political person can... he lied (but they all lie) the main sin was that he got caught.

but this is an honest question... best answer will not go to someone who merely agrees with me without elaboration I am open to your comments on this one...

And don't say Clinton, he may have got a bj in office but he is the one and only pres. who put us in the black and even gave us a surplus!

My own opinion is Lyndon Johnson, a treasonous, corrupted and greedy failure who probably authorized the hit on JFK!

"The loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or imagined, from abroad.

No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

The executive has no right, in any case, to decide the question, whether there is or is not cause for declaring war.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. "

And perhaps, then, we as Americans would demand ultimate accountability. For if lying under oath about a sexual dalliance with a Botero-esque intern is an impeachable offense, so certainly would be administration complicity in the effort to (as one Enron trader put it so coarsely) "jam Grandma Millie…right up her a**hole for fu**ing $250 a megawatt hour." When Congess forces Dick to open up the energy meeting minutes, what shall we find?
But why limit ourselves to misdemeanors when the administration's high crimes are hiding in plain sight:

-Lies and Manipulation of Intelligence to start a war.
-Torture against military and intl. laws.
-Unauthorized wire taps on American citizens
-Treasonous outing of CIA operatives for revenge.
-and on and on...

The articles of impeachment write themselves.

Somehow Clinton's 1 lie is supposed to be equal to Bush's 1000s of lies and deceptions and contradictory statements. Somehow 1 democrat scandal is supposed to be equal to the dozens and dozens and dozens of republican scandals. Somehow they purport to be the "party of morality" yet it doesn't strike them as worse that their party is easily more immoral than our party.

Every day, the republican party says or does something terrible and the response is always, "Remember Clinton's lie!" And that is supposed to wipe the slate clean?

Where is the SENSE OF PROPORTION? Is this the lottery effect that because you know somebody wins, you think you have a shot to actually win the lottery? 1 plane crashes, so you can't ride any more planes? How about if 80% of the planes crashed?

Serious question.

Ann Coulter says "whats wrong with fighting over oil, we need oil, they arent using it".

This is a pragmatic view to say the least. Do you agree that it is ok for the USA to behave this way?

Here are some of the greatest hits in the life of the limbaugh:

24 Nov 1970Receives a military classification of 1-Y (fit for service only in time of war), thus avoiding the draft. There is some dispute on the reason for this, but Limbaugh's brother recounts an unsusual medical condition: "Rush avoided the draft because of a pilonidal cyst at the base of the spinal cord in which excess tissue and hair may collect, causing discomfort and discharge” eeyuch!!

1971Moves to Pittsburgh to work for KQV, is fired after an arrest for soliciting a gay prostitute.

23 Sep 1993"He says that, 'I know every expert in the world will disagree with me, but I don't buy into the disease part of drug abuse. The first time you reach for a substance you are making a choice. Every time you go back, you're making a personal choice. I feel very strongly about that.'

9 Dec 1993"If [Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders] wants to legalize drugs, send the people who want to do drugs to London and Zurich, and let's be rid of them." Rush Limbaugh, admitted drug addict, inexplicably still lives in America.

23 Feb 1994"I think this reason why girls don't do well on multiple choice tests goes all the way back to the Bible, all the way back to Genesis, Adam and Eve. God said 'All right, Eve, multiple choice or multiple orgasms, what's it going to be?' We all know what was chosen."

13 May 1994Rush tells his television audience: "Now I got something for you that's true. 1972, Tufts University, Boston. This is 24 years ago -- or, 22 years ago. Three-year study of 5,000 coeds, and they used a benchmark of a bra size of 34C. They found that the -- now wait, it's true -- the larger the brasize, the smaller the I.Q." No such study was ever actually issued.

1999Limbaugh enters detox.

Jun 2002Limbaugh enters detox a second time.

10 Oct 2003To radio audience: "I am addicted to pain medication."
17 Nov 2003Rush Limbaugh returns to the air after a well-publicized monthlong rehab.

6 May 2004Radio commentator Rush Limbaugh dismisses the photos taken of naked prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, saying: "This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation."

2 Oct 2003Reports surface that Limbaugh is being investigated by the Florida State Attorney General's office in Palm Beach County, for his abuse of Oxycontin, Lorcet and hydrocodone prescription painkillers. The source for the story is Wilma Cline, a former housekeeper and also alleged source of the drugs. She claims to have obtained Limbaugh 4,350 pills over a 47 day period. An unnamed source at the State Attorney's office confirmed the story to the New York Daily News.

Hillary Clinton is back on the universal healthcare kick. While our current medical system is not perfect and needs some changes, why would we want to implement something like this.

If we take a lesson from our Canadian neighbors, here are some articles saying why we do not want this in the United States.

http://www.canadafreepress.com/2004/klaus071204.htm

http://www.angelfire.com/pa/sergeman/issues/healthcare/socialized.html

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/10/international/americas/10canada.html?ex=1276056000&en=a61fa098c687ddb2&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

The last article shows that Canada has long lines for medical tests, etc. and that it really is not that great of a system.

Does anyone wish to explain how what is being proposed will be better than what Canada has?

In the 2 hours I've been on Yahoo Answers, I've seen more name-calling and insults coming from the so-called "Moral Right" than I had expected. I know not all Conservatives are this way since I am friends with some Republicans and even have some in my family, but what gives? Is it because of the anonymity of the site, or do you actually treat people like this in real life?

If the situation was reversed there and it was whites throwing blacks off their land do you think there would have been more of a will to help these people?
