These definitions mean different things to different people.Like liberals in America are left leaning people while in Europe some of the most right wing leaning parties used the name liberal, see Jorg Haider.
For me a democratic socialist means a politician who is for the free market with social corrections. He believes the free market should not control things like public transport or health care and that workers should be protected.
No competition with low wage countries because you'll never win that fight and every person who goes out to work all day should be able to afford a decent living.
But note the term is also used by full blown Stalinist communists so what's in a name i guess

Let me clear something up, Democrats by themselves, are borderline Socialists. The very Liberal of them, are Secular Progressive, whom, are communists, but don't admit it. There belief is that:
1. If you work hard, play by the rules, and serve your family, community and nation, the NATION should provide a decent standard of living????? classic socialism at its finest.
2. Bring corporations under stakeholder control and not stockholder control. another words, the government will run business and there goes the capitalist system.
3. There is no such thing as a self made man. All success is due to societal assistance.
4 In the nurturant form of religion, your spiritual experience has to do with your connection to OTHER people and the world. This does not mean the " higher power" concept is out, just that atheism is the way to go and would be subtly promoted by the government. Forget God, Country, church or religion, wont happen.
They really want to hammer the NEOCONS for being so far to the right, when they are so far to the left, all the family and traditional values that have made America great, don't count. We would become the ultimate communist state.
Kinda funny, the USSR makes a turn to capitalism and the US, makes a turn to communism.

My opinion: Someone who doesn't go off the deep-end when it concerns Communism, but far enough. That, by far, describes no Liberal I know, those are the Socialists in denial. The Conservative deal on it (not all of them, of course) is that anyone who has an inkling of Liberal mindset is a Socialist.

once you're a die-problematic Christian, God comes first. (which he could) Then - counting on your household for sure - comes family individuals, and then comes the democratic stuff. family individuals values - issues your household held as major, and your were taught see you later as you've been inclusive of your moms and dads. Christian Values - issues God layed down contained in the Bible, you've been taught in church and stuff like that. Self-denial, serve others, etc. Democratic Values - nicely, that collides with society's view now commonly. So "love absolutely everyone" really is the view in the present day if i'm best... besides, wish that facilitates. ^_^

It's what ever you define it to be. Two words could never describe a political ideology. It is whatever you imagine it to be.
The name, "Democratic Socialist" seems to me to describe justice, fairness and equality.

Socialist: One who practices Socialism which is "any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods."
Democratic Socialist is redundant. The Democrats are Socialists, they just won't admit it.
