My research into the topic seems to suggest (suprisingly) that classic liberalism broke into two forms, with most of it going to the modern conservatives. Excluding the recent advance of the "new mugged liberal" neocons, conservatives and classic liberals seem to have more in common. Legal egalitarianism and not economic egalitarianism, free trade and not protectionism, Tom Paine style distrust of large government.

Is this accurate or did i miss a party split somewhere?

Why or Why not? Can you share examples?

Ice once covered most of N. America not too long ago. Can someone tell me what kind of machines we had 50,000 years ago that started melting all the ice?

With all the talk about "waterboarding," I wonder how you would feel about the supposed practice of "waterboarding" if it could be used to get a terrorist to reveal the location of a bomb that was planted somewhere in your city.

My Daughter is 26 yrs old and living in another state. She was born in the state that I reside in. She lost her birth certificate and only has her social security card. She told me I can get a copy of her birth certificate, by just showing my I.D. (drivers license) and I have a different last name than her, I am remarried. I just don't think that is true, because then anyone could get anyone's birth certificate. The place I would have to go to get it is 2 hours away and I really don't feel like driving all that way for nothing.
Anyone have any suggestions on how a person that lives in a different state than the one they were born in, gets a copy of their birth certificate.
thanks

This video claims that George Bush has met with the leaders of Mexico and Canada to turn our country into part of the North American Union through trade agreements such as Nafta. Any truth to this? If you haven't seen the video, try googling it for a free website.

We all know how low their approval ratings were before 9/11 and we know they failed to stop the attack (claiming incompetence) and we know how well the government made out with getting more funding to fight terrorism and getting into two profitable wars, so what makes you think they will stop the next attack when they want to go into Iran?

Why is that after the fires in California, everyone banned together and worked hard and provided help to themselves, and after Katrina everyone ran around like chickens with their heads cut of blaming the government. Okay so the people in California probably have more money, but that shouldn't effect how well you attempt to help yourself? in other words Why did the people work so well together in Cali. and Why did the people after Katrina blame everyone else??

Brian Ross ABCNews tonight . He says that it has been known that the procedure has been removed. The option is perhaps the US may need to use it again. BUT why? Only 3 terrorists were subjected to it and no one since 2003? Why the BUZZ?
btw the AG is expected to pass as later today more Democrats approved his appointment...

Prior to the big government programs, this is how it was done, and we had the exact same level of poverty...no worse, not better, but much less taxation and dependency.

"Rudy Giuliani's latest radio ad, which began airing in New Hampshire this week, draws a stark picture for anyone diagnosed with prostate cancer in England. "I had prostate cancer, five, six years ago," the Republican presidential candidate says in the ad. "My chance of surviving prostate cancer, and thank God I was cured of it, in the United States, 82 percent. My chances of surviving prostate cancer in England, only 44 percent under socialized medicine.”
Giuliani is wrong about that. Fortunately for the English, their chances of surviving prostate cancer are far better than Giuliani claims: The actual five-year survival rate is 74.4 percent, according to the United Kingdom's Office of National Statistics. Even those in the U.S. have a better chance than what Giuliani states..."

Thoughts?
