Why is that after the fires in California, everyone banned together and worked hard and provided help to themselves, and after Katrina everyone ran around like chickens with their heads cut of blaming the government. Okay so the people in California probably have more money, but that shouldn't effect how well you attempt to help yourself? in other words Why did the people work so well together in Cali. and Why did the people after Katrina blame everyone else??

The people in California have been raised to be independent and to take care of themselves. Yes they had more money but they also had more energy and more willingness to work hard. Unfortunately too many people in New Orleans did not have that energy and willingness to work. Lack of money hurts in many ways including making you more dependent on the government. The one thing that bothers me is that the people of New Orleans didn't seem to want to help themselves they just wanted to blame the government for not doing enough to help them.

The people in New Orleans have been conditioned for years to expect somebody else to do every thing for them.
This is generally known as the NANNY STATE.
It has no particular race or ethnicity just a mind set of sitting on there butt and wait until the Nanny does it. And God help you if you are the nanny and don't do what ever they want like they want it done As quick as they want it.

The people in CA were pretty much used to taking care of themselves and when a little extra help did come they were grateful.

If you find something racial in this then look to your own soul because I don't know or care about the origins of the people I just spoke of.
I refer only to their mentality.

first off... I thought California is "full of liberals" that can't "help themselves" Republicans?

but ANYWAY... the forest fires really didn't destroy the infastructure of Califonia... people could still get supplies relatively easily and most roads weren't destroyed...

EVERYTHING was destroyed in New Orleans...

do you see a difference?

in California, after the fires passed, you could get in your car THE NEXT DAY and go to Home Depot and start rebuilding... and there are 5 other home Depots in 20 miles of you if one is out of material... and your job is still there...

in New Orleans... your car is gone... the roads are gone... Home Depot is gone... your job is gone... and it's that way in a 100 mile radius of you... FOR MONTHS

do you understand the difference?

clearly... you have zero clue... along with most that answered the question...

There's the big fundamental difference between fires that burn themselves out after a few days and a major city being underwater for several weeks, and also the difference that in CA, there weren't sherriffs with guns trying to prevent the masses of refugees from entering their counties (look up the Gretna Bridge)....

People of California will fend for themselves and not wait for the gov. to save them. they fled on their own and will survive on their own. How many TV’s were stolen in California? How many pharmacies have been looted? How many murders? how many cops/firemen shot at?

Blame someone else. The fact of the matter is that Californian took care of themselves and did not wait for the Feds to come in as a savior. Even the state of Louisiana took forever to take care of its own people. The success resides with the people, not the government or the white house.

I applaud the people that did not wait on the government. The government should not be in the business of rebuilding peoples lives. Contrast the State of Louisiana vs. the State of Mississippi. Mississippi did not wait until after the storm to prepare, they started before the storm. New Orleans was waiting for the Federal Gov’t to step in a take over. The Federal Gov’t was not designed that was. The city must request the help. Louisiana never did that until much later.

State government of Louisiana has to be blamed for doing nothing during catastrophic events. Government of California, local authorities did what they had to do, save people.

And they DID IT.

The entire southern half of California was not devastated by this fire. there was food, water, sanitation etc readily available and LA was not under a total evacuation.

Isn't Stevenson Ranch kinda on the ocean side of La. around Decker Canyon Rd. on the northern edge of Malibu? My Ca. geography is really rusty.

Large groups of people who have been taught to look to the government to meet their basic needs will act like the victims of Katrina every time. Sad! But this is what government entitlements create in the minds of those they pretend to help.

I have to agree with you on your point regarding the refusal of the people of New Orleans to help themselves and want everyone else to do ALL the work and pay ALL the costs. Morally bankrupt?
Beyond that highlighting of character flaws, you should take into consideration the fact that in California, the infrastructure remained in tact.
In New Orleans, the power, water and ability to deliver food and medical assistance collapsed. No roads and bridges etc.
Tougher situation to deal with.

You are right, California is richer, and because they are richer they have learned how to look out for themselves.

The poor have been taught that they should always rely on the government and not on themselves. They wait for people to give them direction, they wait for a hand out.

And who has tought them this, the liberal Government, who is always quick to give rather then to teach. As the old Adage goes, give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat forever.

The Liberals are always give. Never teach.

The two situations aren't even comparable. It's like comparing a Stealth bomber to a prop plane.

What do you mean that people in CA "provided help to themselves"? Those burned out received help from others, and FEMA was on the scene, too.

Your question has the whiff of racism in it.
