Some scientists say the Earth is getting colder and some say it is getting warmer. Which one is it?

I put this under politics and government because I know a lot more people go to this catagory.

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, and the like.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, and the like.

4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda i s neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes the media are directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media are indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Seeing how China holds more than 1/2 of our national debt, make more than 90% of consumer goods, and has a population that is doubling faster than any other country.....the fight for natural resources will be great....

What do you see happening?

Everyone uses evasion when talking about their party and attacks when talking about the other. OR accuses me of being stupid and voting party lines. In other words, please don't play some evasion game with me...

I just feel it is a double-standard to be able to say anything you want against Christianity and be told it is free speech but if someone dare says anything dissenting toward any other religion, it is considered sacrilege??

Albert C. Zapanta serves on the board of directors of Tyson foods. and is President and CEO of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce. He is Chairman of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, an independent policy adviser to the Secretary of Defense.
Tyson Foods policy is not to hire people not authorized to work in then United States. Is Zapanta working with the Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to encourage illegal immigrants to enlist in military service before they can qualify for a job at Tysons? Also, isn't that the same as outsourcing the jobs our military is supposed to perform.

Is this because we assume that we are more responsible with nukes, etc? Is it because of a superiority complex? What is your opinion?

In America....well in the south, there is an old saying..."never bring up religion and politics". And yet when we do...we all get huffy and try so hard to defend our beliefs and also try to "convert" people to believe the way we believe whether it be about politics, our government, or our religion. I With all the questions I have seen and posted myself...and with all the feedback from other yahoo users....I have come to the conclusion that hearing from everyone and getting opinions and attitudes from people who believe differently than myself has really opened my eyes to see the diverse spectrum of people that this world holds. and despite the fact that it is very hard to change a persons mind when it comes to government (especially), it is good and wise to listen to what others say. I can only hope that with every debate or topic of politics we all argue about, that somehow we come away with a piece of information or knowledge to use to better ourselves. Has ANYONE or ANY GOVERNMENT asked Al Qaeda, Hezbollah or Hammas what they want?

The news is full of peeps covering wars and interviews with senators with 41 recommendations to provide security against attack.

The US cannot even control the Mexican border so how do we expect them to control myriads of ways of creating damage worldwide?

Of course all this is futile. We are all at risk. Anywhere and everywhere.

The ONLY way is to initiate down-to-earth discussions with these groups and find out why they want to destroy the West and Israel.

Even the muslim community is is against terrorism, so we need to identify what is being demanded and whether it is reasonable or not.

We cannot hope to contain this threat this way by bombing people out of existence.

Do unto others as you would be done by

That is the ONLY solution
