Some scientists say the Earth is getting colder and some say it is getting warmer. Which one is it?

I put this under politics and government because I know a lot more people go to this catagory.

Depends on which political agenda the scientist is influenced by.
In a way you are right to post it here.
It seems just about anything is being politicised nowadays in order to detract attention from the issues that really are important. And this by the Left and the Right.

The consensus in the scientific community is that the earth is getting warmer, and that this warming is directly due to the burning of fossil fuels.
I'm sure that many people will say this is not true, and that there is not a consensus, however if you do independent research on you own, you will find that the overwhelming majority of scientist that have examined the data agree that this is a real problem that is getting worse.
You can't just listen to sound bites and read one or two articles in a newspaper. You need to go to the source and look at the evidence that has been collected and collaborated over the past two decades or so.
scientists have made up their minds, years ago using the facts obtained from data collected around the world. A few dissenters have cast doubt on this but the reality is that 99% of the scientific community believes that climate change is happening now

Ah, yes, again with the search for certainty in an uncertain world.

Whether it's getting warmer or not (not going near the question of WHY (and anyone who claims that it's us evil humans needs a factual check)) after awhile it's gonna get a WHOLE LOT COLDER.
