What is a Republican?

Question

Don't talk about Democrats please. I got thrashed for asking about Republicans, so tell me, how do you define Republicans. Is there a general consensus about them? What do they generally stand for?

Everyone uses evasion when talking about their party and attacks when talking about the other. OR accuses me of being stupid and voting party lines. In other words, please don't play some evasion game with me...
