No, if someone were Egyptian, they would call themselves "Egyptian". The term African American is a special term used to describe those descendants of the slaves that were brought to American from the continent of Africa. Those people do not generally know which country in Africa their ancestors derived otherwise; they would use that country to describe themselves. For example, if one knew that their ancestors were from Nigeria, they would be Nigerian American.

If you want to take the term African-American literally, then if you are originally from Libya or Egypt and are a naturalized American citizen, then yes it could mean that you could be Libyan or Egyptian.

The intent of the term is to reflect heritage not specific nationality Nationality means nation, country and Africa is a continent made up of many countries as I'm sure you already know.

YES! Of course! Unfortunately, lots of Egyptians do not consider themselves to be Black or African. African - American identifies all those whose ancestors where brought over from Africa. Africans were taken into slavery all over the country. I mean hello, slavery was even IN Africa. Remeber Egypt?

It could, but only someone uninterested in intelligent discourse would quibble.

For the same reason that white people aren't really white (more kind of peachy-pinky-tan)

And black people are not really black (not most anyway) more varying shades of brown.

African American is a generally accepted term. Why not ask a question pertaining to something constructive?

If you are trying to be clever or humourous, there are other places to post.
