It's an interesting quirk in the law that nobody ever talks about. Women claim that they should have the right to get an abortion whenever they want, without the man having any rights, yet the man is supposed to have all the responsibilities of the woman once the kid is born? Wouldn't it make more sense to allow both the man and the woman to be able to force an abortion since its half his, or at the very least the woman sign a waiver if she keeps the baby. (I actually consider abortion to be wrong under all but the most extreme situations, but as women so elegently put it (grow ovaries then talk) How do you justify making a man take care of a baby he doesn't even have the right to protect from murder?

I don't ask this to start a fight. I ask so we can have a mature dialogue. That's how democracy is supposed to work. Please don't spew a bunch of hubris and vitriol. Certainly people on all sides of the current war can find lessons from our long involvement in Vietnam that are germaine today. Also, I am asking this in Government not in Military because I am interested in the broader international relations context.

It seems like this is a criteria. Any guesses which country we'll be having it out with next with the new president? Better yet, name one president who wasn't involved in a conflict or war.

Say a government is elected in a country by a large mandate - say 65% of the vote. This government is very much anti-US; they do not want US corporations keeping their people in poverty with low wages, they are against US foreign policy and so on. This country otherwise is democratic, with free speech, freedom of religion and so on.

Would the US be justified in overthrowing this government due to their anti-US stance? (either directly through force, or indirectly by proxy - funding opposition guerillas to start a coup for instance)

The Observer
Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..
A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.
The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents.
'Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,' concludes the Pentagon analysis.

I am at an appalingly horrible unfair advantage due to the laziness in the government. Say we were more like Southern Korea. Whyyyyy not!!! Duh we'd be sad we can't freakin play video games and get on the computer and not do anything with our lifes. But we are not forced. We have too much freedom. Freedom isn't free, but it is in excess. So why are we still fighting. Why is anyone in America lazy. Where did that behaviour originate. Why is it given the light of day to exist! At least in the hands of a decent dicatator, there would always be the forced activity to keep people's hands busy. I know I have the choice to make myself better. But I don't have the taught discipline to go through with it. That is a truth that other well-taught people can't even fathom. You are not in my place! You don't know what it is like! Please don't tell me that it is easy, it is not! I am sad that other people like this have to suffer. Not everyone can just stay busy. Maybe I am lazy but it isn't my fault

It should be illegal to be over a millionare personally. But if the person promotes potentially world changing business ideas their overall fortune should be able to increase for the sake of their business. The imbalance in power is due to the personal choices of people who choose to waste money. With the gain in money we can put out help for people who are at a natural disadvantage. NO!!!! THE UNITED ***** FUNDS AND CRAP DON'T ALWAYS WORK!!! You have to be raised under a certain mindset to even care to take advantage of any special funds towards less fortunate groups of people. Their is and unchangable asset in some people which conflict with all opportunity. And lets be honest some people have more everything than others. Brainpower and whatever else makes them naturally above others, there is a reason in addition to discrimination and unequal opportunity. If we all had equal drive but unequal chance then their would be more of a problem. But there has been a rest with unequality.

Americans like to bash other countries on here and say no one has ever helped them, that they have become "a great country" all on their own, without needing anything from any other countries in the world so screw them all.

Now what would happen if every country the US of A relies on for International Trade and for Foreign Investment stopped trading with the US and pulled out ALL the Foreign Investment in the US? IF the every country in the world withdrew as their ally, in trade, foreign affairs, wars that the US economy so heavily relies upon.

Do you think the US could continue to exist in a vaccuum? This is something Americans should stop to think about before making some of the comments they do about other countries.

Why do countries continue to trash talk the USA, continue to burn our flag every chance they get, continue to criticize our way of life, continue to swear that we are the anti christ, and continue to belittle the most powerful man on earth, Mr.GW Bush, but when mother nature destroys their cardboard homes, or when they need our expertise to help them out they have no second thoughts on who to call.??HELP, we need food, shelter, money, water..BULLSHIT, I DONT CARE ANYMORE..Why do they look upon us for aid and think its ok for them to run their PIE HOLE'S? We should just let them be, what , are they going to get mad at us?? We have our own problems at the moment.

That we have both a private and public healthcare system in the UK?

I keep reading arguments against socialised healthcare in America that cite "well in the UK, under their National Health Service *everyone* has crappy healthcare and waiting lists and no choice of healthcare providers".

Thats crap. Yes, there are waiting lists and sometimes a less luxurious standard of care om the NHS than you'd get privately, but we have a private system also! The rich don't 'have' to use the NHS they can "go private" anytime they want! Those who can afford it can also take out health insurance to pay for private treatment and never go near the NHS if they don't want to.

But for those who would otherwise have no access to healthcare ie the poorest - the NHS is a lifesaver.

And FWIW the care I have always received on the NHS has always been exemplary. I had my first baby last year and was given an excellent standard of care.

Having socialised medicine does not restrict choice!!!

The flooding over the weekend took out about 6 foot off the sides of our bridge. There is just enough for a vehical to pass. We live on a dead end private road, with it being the sole way in and out for our neighbors and ourselves. It is a gravel road with a 36 inch tin horn. From the top of the bridge to the creek bed is about 15' deep. If we loose one more foot of road we'll be shut in. Is there any assistance we can get? We're tring to get the county to take it over so the school bus can come down and pick up our kids. If that doesnt work are there any programs with soil conservation, fema that we could try? Who should we contact for assistance?
