This government should be able to find better ways to regenerate cities than getting into bed with gambling organisations.

I'm sure most of you must have noted a flaw in the practiced democracy. As majority in any country is low in mental maturity, perceptive ability and education its choice will simply be a reflection, in other words stupid. And unfortunately due to it being a choice of majority this choice becomes the so called leader. Why can't we assign a weight to each voter according to his/her mental maturity, education and perceptive ability and then calculate who should become the leader?

Our legislature actually spent some of its valuable time (and my valuable tax $$$) deciding whether someone's drinking age (21) should start at midnight or 7am! GROAN!

Why do Americans protest when they know it's not going to make a difference? Example: recently in Washington, tens of thousands of people protested the troop increase in the war in Iraq. Polls show that most people want withdrawal out of Iraq. Congress wouldn't do ****!
Another example: When foreign companies seek interest in profitting from US roads, and the majority of Americans are against these foreigners owning or leasing their roads, elected officials ignore these protests.

When Americans protest, elected officials don't care.

However, do you remember when illegal immigrants protested? Congress gave them amnesty and issued guest-worker programs at the expense of America. Ha! Say it ain't so!

Why is it that gainfully employed people must take drug tests in order to get and maintain most good jobs, and welfare recipients don't have to and yet they sit around and get our free money?

Wouldn't it behoove our system to drug-test the recipients before handing out monthly checks? It may cost more initially, but in the long run, we'd probably save tons of tax payers' money.

Why the double standard?

I heard this question in the news lately, but I'm curious to see what more people think and why.

Thank you.

I can see European Prime Ministers laughing on the phone if Obama asked for an interview. And same for the Chinese and Japanese.

Under the Presidential powers part of the Constitution it states:
"and he shall have power to grant reprieve and pardons for offenses against the United States, EXCEPT in cases of impeachment.
So did President Ford violate the Constitution when he pardoned President Nixon after he was impeached? And if he did, did Congress and the Supreme Court violate their oaths to preserve, uphold and defend the Constitution allowing the pardon?

The last couple local and national elections, I didn't like any of the choices so I decided not to vote at all. Of course this made some people angry and "Do you know how many people DIED for you to have the RIGHT to vote??" Yes, and my thought is, didn't they also die so I have the right NOT to vote if I am not pleased with the candidates?

I'm thinking that all the people who vote because they feel obligated to, even if they don't like the choices, just "allow" the government to put in office those they WANT in office anyway. Wouldn't the Government take notice if hardly anyone showed up on election day? Couldn't there maybe be a ballot for "None of the Above" so at least those of us who are displeased at the choices given will be heard?

I want to know if our government is a true reflection of the people of the USA. I can't escape the feeling that the moral majority is not a true majority and they have a stranglehold on the politics and policies of this country.

Local Government / County Council i work for is planning to change all staffs terms of service. Part of this will be to rid the current sick leave system in favour of: ' Have 8 days off Sick in one year and Pay increments will be stopped'. I am half way between my pay band and have had increments annually. I am now facing next increment being frozen. Can this be lawful ? Does it breach european rights etc ? if applied can the said Council apply the new conditions in retrospect ? This was suggested as a way of curbing sickness days lost but it is tantamount to BLACKMAIL ! Any Info appreciated.
