Libertarian

I think it would depend on the context.

If we're talking about in the United States government
in the current decade, I would say "Communist."

The word has gained such baggage that I fear people
have stopped understanding the issues involved and
instead, simply fear Stalinism.

Its also important to recognize that we sit on a delicate
balance between individualism and communalism
(which is subtly different than communism). In some
ways, we control that balance by the number of people
from each side we have. Clearly most people are
somewhere in the middle ... as am I.

There are lots of factors that pure libertarianism does
not want to consider that need to be addressed for
the species (and therefore country) survival. For instance,
you can not depend on capitalism to "plan" --- so it
cannot respond to certain problems that take time to
develop, such as environmental catastrophes.

We need people who can say "Yes, it is going to hurt
business now, but we all gain later if we ...". If we don't
have a lot of that in the near future, we won't be here
in another 100 years (See Dr. Hawking's comments
regarding space exploration).

Do not equate Communism with Stalinism. Truly,
I do not believe a purely communist system or socialist
system can work very long - the systems fail to take
into account the selfishness of humanity - but the other
end is simply chaos with nuclear bombs. Eventually
we all lose.

We need some of both methodology, and right now, the
US suffers from "me me me".

There is not even a comparison to be made. It's like asking what would you rather eat, an apple that that has a little bruise on it, or some green fuzzy moldy piece of liver...?
Libertarian if those are the only 2 choices....but would prefer an Independent.

I wouldn't. I write in another name....my own if I had to. There's no way I could support a communist or libertarian.

i dont think there are many communists running, although some democrats seem to endorse that dogma. But then again, some of the republicans seem to be fascists, so id have to go for the middle of the road.

They both show great ideological fortitude. They are the true Liberal and the true Conservative neither with the fascist tendencies displayed by are present Democrats, and Republicans. I would like to see are present two parties replaced completely by these two, and watch how the middle road is formed. I believe it would be truly beautiful.
