Our legislature actually spent some of its valuable time (and my valuable tax $$$) deciding whether someone's drinking age (21) should start at midnight or 7am! GROAN!

To answer the question, yes, I want to have a giggle.

To comment on the issue, what do you expect your legislators to do? With way too many laws on the books, the BEST use of their time would be getting rid of laws we don't need any more, or (better yet) passing sunset legislation that would kill every law on the books after some period of time (5/7/10 years). Each such law could survive if re-enacted (and signed by the executive) during its last year, but each one would have to be handled separately (that is, no blanket reauthorizations of chapters 212-253, inclusive).

You CAN'T get a smaller government if legislatures keep piling law upon law upon law, because they all have to be enforced, and many laws create agencies that then promulgate, interpret, and enforce regulations and to adjudicate and punish violations thereof.

Legislators, however, only want more power, which means having a track record of accomplishment, and accomplishment means (to them) proposing and working for the passage of MORE LAWS.

If you really want a giggle, look up the occupation of your legislators. In my state, it is overwhelmingly "politician" or "legislator". So much for citizen-statesmen, what we have now are career politicians with careers to manage and advance, rather than mere citizens who pull duty for a while then go back to their homes/farms/businesses/careers.

I don't think that this is what the founders envisioned!

Our state changed that a couple of years ago too - it's BS because a couple of MORONS drank themselves to death from midnight to bar closing. They have to protect us from ourselves you know, because they know better.
