what possible difference does it make? several other nations have female leaders... why should we not be so enlightened?

Honestly the only thing that I can see that could possibly be an issue, is Terrorist countries that want to see us harmed will take it as an invitation to attack again.
However, a female is a lot more likely to retaliate than a man is when their family is attacked.
