This government should be able to find better ways to regenerate cities than getting into bed with gambling organisations.

Its the job and purpose of the Primates, The Archbishop of Canterbury and The Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, to "get stuck in" and take the moral high ground. People may not always like or even agree with what they have to say, but that's much better than remaining silent!

The churches seem to be the only people who are standing up to be counted on this issue. I find the idea of these casinos horrifying and hope the Government's reason for promoting them is nothing more than the fact that they see casinos as a cash cow. More disturbingly though, they don't seem to care about the crime that will result or the financiall plight of people who are drawn into excessive gambling. Is it just another nail in Britain's coffin. What exactly is their agenda?

There's not many people I know of who actually want these casinos.

It's just something else for the government to tax, on the back of poorly educated, desperate people who will throw their money away in such places.

Although I would not describe myself as particularly religious, I do like it when the likes of the Archbishop stand up and say what they think.

I don't always agree with him but I do here.
Gambling is a way to demoralise the population, and large-scale gambling is a tax on the poor.
I never thought I'd live to say "country's going to the dogs" like my dad, but when I saw those morons going "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!" on the lottery draw programme, I said it.

Why didn't the Archbish take the moral high ground when it came to the war in Iraq? Why were their priests etc 'blessing' the troops? Sure, the Archbish sticks his oar in from time to time but never over something important (my opinion only), just safe stuff.

I am a big fan of the current Archbishop. He speaks his mind and he makes sense! He seems to be a great guy also.

He has said more than a mouthful and he will have to be careful or he might follow the course of history and get executed.
