..restrictions or barriers to international trade?

(although very strong evidence says we are), wouldn't it be wise to err on the side of caution? Is it safe to run an uncontrolled experiment on the only home we have? Why not support green technologies...why not DEMAND it? We know that emissions have a negative effect on human health (smog-filled cities have much higher rates of respiratory problems such as asthma, even cancer)...why is that not reason alone to look to other things. Not to mention the political implications related to our reliance on foreign oil. Think it can't be done? Brazil primarily uses ethanol to run their vehicles and they enjoy .90/gal ethanol prices, cleaner cities and minimal reliance on foreign oil. Brazil has offered to import ethanol to the US, but we have placed a 100% tariff on ethanol...so trade options don't look good. Tariff on oil you ask? 0%. It took Brazil 30 years to get to where they are in green technologies...why can't we at least start on the process?

I have known many soldiers who have been in Fallujha, Bahgdad, and other parts of Iraq and they have seen up close and personal the daily lives of the Iraqis and how they support the soldiers. Why is it that we as Americans do not belive in what is going on and our soldiers? Weither we like it or not, we are the police of the world and you tell me, if you see your neighbor dragging his wife and kids through your neighborhood and beating them, would you stand there in your window watching, go out there and fight him, or close your blinds? President Bush is doin exactly what is right for Iraq and us. If that same neighbor threatens to come after you after he's done with his family, would you allow him into your home or would you go out there and fight him and keep him away from your family? Now understand that your neighbor is Saddam, Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda, and his family is the Iraqi people and your family is the United States Americans. You decide

Let me first say that I am a Bush hater. Let me also say that I'm posting this after having watched only the speech - I haven't seen or read any of the spin.

I was intrigued by his comments about heath care and social security. I think this proposed tax deduction for health insurance is interesting. I want to know more, but it's an interesting proposal.

I also agree with him about a temp. worker program and the idea that border patrol needs to be looking for drug dealers not people wanting to work.

His environmental ideas are interesting and ambitions.

I strongly disagree with his idea to send 20K more troops to Iraq, but at the same time I appreciate that he took the time to actually outline his plan. It's probably his most frank discussion on the war.

I give him a big thumbs up for calling for a reduction in budget ear marks.

Bush is definitely getting better at public speaking. The speech had some interesting ideas. Will the follow through be there.

It is true we live in a democracy, for the power is in the hands of the many and not the few.

i really wish the gov't would stop touching everything i do. i'm a big boy, i can take care of myself. i don't need medicare, social security, minimum wage, or health care provided for me because i can do it myself. i wish congress would stop treating me like an idiot who would go to work without my pants on if they weren't there with some pants-on maintanance program...when the fed's mess with stuff it tends just to get bigger, more annoying, and inneficient. ok, i'm done ranting, sorry. feel free to answer the question if you'd like =)

Opinion on the restructuring of Congress, medicaid, medicare, and tax proposals; the goals of the reduction on gas dependency; immigation, tax reforms, and the goals in Iraq? Based soley on this speech will his approvals ratings go up, or stay the same - why? Was this a speech catered to the public or to Congress for acceptance and do you think he can overcome American cynicism on his behalf to lead this country on a path of greatness again, or are these false promises? What is your take on the State of the Union Address?

As many of them know, Japan suffered a huge loss during the second world war. When compared to India at that stage, Japan was a poor country. But during these years, it has developed so much that it makes India to look like a poor country. Similarly Malaysia and Singapore and such other country was also once under developed than India. But in today's economy, a average salary of a citizen of either country, exceeds the average salary of an Indian by atleast 10% . These countries seem more like a rich country, but in reality India is the rich country in every aspect. But it doesn't appear so. What do you think is the reason for this? What do you suggest to make India a wealthy, fully-developed country?
