Newsweek: Why Dems should worry about Paul

Something Ron Paul said early in Tuesday's Newsweek conversation convinced Stumper that as a third-party candidate he would prove more appealing to Dems than Republicans.

They hate Romney because he is a Mormon, but what if Huckabee asks him to join the ticket? Would they view Huckabee as a traitor, or would Romney suddenly be OK?

Huckabee is surging up fast & furious in the polls. Is he now the clear favourite?!

in a previous question I expressed my concerns that Oprah is having an adverse effect on the Obama campaign because many Americans will instinctively assume that she is endorsing them simply because they have race in common due to several unspoken factors (for instance, the fact that she has never before endorsed another candidate). In lieu of my concerns, several people responded by saying that regardless of her and racial assumptions, Oprah would not be able to influence how people vote, as people would not be stupid enough to allow her to influence them. My question is, if Oprah will in fact, as people say, have no influence on how people vote, then why is she even there endorsing the Obama campaign in the first place?

I've just gotten into politics and I tend to lean in more towards Democratic, but I still hate abortion.
But this year are we going to get another Republican president or is it hard to say?

What did you think? I don't agree with Michael Moore on most issues but ........ damn...... this movie was screwed up. I work in healthcare (radiology) and it was right on the money. I can't argue with any of it.

A student who I know is not a supporter of my school, but he is still running to be a student leader (mainly for popularity etc).

I know that he wouldn't do a good job of it, seeing as he does not support the school in the first place.

My principal (who makes the final decision of this) isn't aware of this, and I feel that I should inform him of this, but I am not sure how he will react to the situation, and I would prefer to stay anonymous as I don't want any fingers pointed at me. I would prefer not to inform him through writing as this can be shown to numerous people, and also not revealing any identity in the letter may reduce the its valued importance. How should I handle the situation?

How screwed up would America become if the people actually let her become the next president? I for one would want another civil war in America if she wins.

I don't know about anyone else, but I believe it is extremely risky to allow people such as Oprah, who have a particularly powerful influence but whose opinions lack any therapeutic judgement, be endorsing presidential candidates. It could very easily lead to the wrong person being elected. While I do realize that there are other people of influence running other people's campaigns, the fact is that the majority of these other people simply do not have the same power/influence that Oprah has, and if they do they are not black, and generally speaking there are also no instinctive racial assumptions to be had with anyone else. In Obama's case, however, I think that regardless of what she or anyone else says, people instinctively assume that Oprah is endorsing him merely because they have race in common based on a variety of unspoken factors that point the finger in that direction (the fact that she has never endorsed any other candidate, for instance).

Oprah is not a doctor of any sort, nor is she trained in any kind of psychology/have any specific training that could lead her opinion to be more credible than that of any ordinary American citizen. She simply has the power of influence and is able to get her voice heard because of her status as a talk show host, which she attained merely because she was lucky and had the gift of gab. I will say that after hearing from several of the candidates, and entirely without the influence of Oprah, I honestly believe that Obama is the right man for the job. But I am just afraid that too many Americans will let her endorsement be the decisive factor, or in other words, that her seemingly harmless endorsement is having somewhat of an adverse impact on the Obama campaign.

We have all seen how well a republican in the executive office works with democratic ran congress. I think it's a given, to say that it is unproductive and a waste of time. Many people are saying that they will under no sercumstances vote democrat due to the fact that they are "liers, unproductive, and foolish." So far since the dems have taken the congress they have pushed for several bills to help out everyday americans (with many being vetoed by our republican leader). What is your view of another republican in the white house? Will it be this unproductive due to the stubborness?
