Newsweek: Why Dems should worry about Paul

Something Ron Paul said early in Tuesday's Newsweek conversation convinced Stumper that as a third-party candidate he would prove more appealing to Dems than Republicans.

Yes, because I would have probably voted for a Democrat, after voting for Bush. He let me and most of the country down. I'm now supporting Ron Paul, and so are millions of others (he doesn't get 10+ million dollars from people in their parents basement).

Suprised to see mostly Democrats and Huckabee supporters answer this question, and almost all were negative. Huckabee has no chance to beat Obama/Oprah, or even Clinton/Streisand.

He would have to win the primaries first. And since his chances of that ever happening are exactly dick, I don't think that the Dems should worry too much about him.

Edit: I just re-red this article and it seems like the author is primarily concerned of the "Nader effect": if this guy goes independent during the general election and effectively sabotages the democrats chance of winning. Ron Paul has said numerous times that he will not be running under any other ticket besides Republican. This guy should do his homework first.

Ron Paul does not represent the Republican perspective and would never have a chance at the nomination. His supporters are naive, but vocal, youth and Democrats. The Dems only support him in his bid for the Republican nomination. They would never support him in a general election

No, he has no chance of winning in the republican primary (he's at about 4%) and he'd get killed in the general. Some democrats might like the idea of legalized drugs, but once they hear they'd lose their welfare programs and pork barrel projects they'll stick with the democrats.

The one with the best chance in the general election is Mitt Romney, since he was able to win with conservative ideas in Massachusetts., which is as liberal a state as you can get.
