Oprah is not a doctor of any sort, nor is she trained in any kind of psychology/have any specific training that could lead her opinion to be more credible than that of any ordinary American citizen. She simply has the power of influence and is able to get her voice heard because of her status as a talk show host, which she attained merely because she was lucky and had the gift of gab. I will say that after hearing from several of the candidates, and entirely without the influence of Oprah, I honestly believe that Obama is the right man for the job. But I am just afraid that too many Americans will let her endorsement be the decisive factor, or in other words, that her seemingly harmless endorsement is having somewhat of an adverse impact on the Obama campaign.

I also think it is extremely risky to let people such as Oprah, who have a particularly powerful influence but whose opinions lack any therapeutic judgement, be endorsing presidential candidates. It could very easily lead to the wrong person being elected.

but the majority of the other people endorsing candidates do not have the same power/influence that Oprah has, and generally speaking there are no instinctive racial assumptions to be had with anyone else.

Oprah just wants to see a black man in the presidential seat and Obama would be the first. He could be saying almost anything and she would still support him.

She does have the same rights as anyone else to throw her support behind a candidate!
If I were Obama I'm not sure I'd want to owe her anything after all is said and done.
I still think that the people that watch her show and follow her lead blindly (cult like) are not the kind of people who will take the time away from the TV sets to go and register to vote! You must first register by a certain date then go vote. I wouldn't want to count on the fact that they will!!!
I agree that her endorsement might hurt him more than help him!!

By that logic, nobody should be allowed to endorse a candidate.
Oprah has the same rights as any other citizen to endorse and campaign for the candidate of her choice. That her voice is "louder" because of her position is simply reality. What about radio talk show hosts stating their opinions on candidates? That's no different.
This is how campaigning works.

On the few rare occasions where I've been stuck somewhere that her program was showing and I couldn't escape, I've noticed that she really isn't all that bright.
No intelligent person should follow her lead. Unfortunately there's ample proof to be found that most Americans are at least as dull witted as she and are quite happy to follow her every suggestion.
Amusing side note: Her Obama rally in Columbia, SC is being held at Williams-Brice Stadium adjacent to the State Fairgrounds where there is a gun show today. Too bad I'm busy.

if you can repeat, so can i!!
this one is a no brainer. oprah has clearly served people through her skills better than any other single tv personality. i have watched her through the years as she learned and began to unselfishly give of her wisdom to any who would hear her. i have sat at her feet so to speak and credit her with having helped to open my mind. i had already made my choice for this nomination and when she came forth with her endorsement, i felt that she would have an amazing influence on those she has mentored. never lose sight of the fact that she is a true mentor. her choices are powerfully felt. obama/edwards "08!!!

oprah has as much right as anybody to voice out her opinion. the fact that she has a talk show is just part of the campaign. if you don't want her doing what she's doing, then start a campaign or whatnot. she's just one person. start something to stop her one voice.

this is not extra risky than having the guy who will develop the main company money having the ability to purchase the regular public of the television classified ads. a minimum of with Oprah, human beings do understand what she stands for. the corporate republican backers who provide each and all the money for the television classified ads are secret.
