The long-term consequences of the Viet Nam war are virtually negligable. Most Americans today couldn't find Viet Nam on the map.

OTOH, the long-term consequences of the Iraq war will be substantial and will likely last for generations because of Iraq's enourmous oil reserves and it's location in the middle east.

Do you think Bush fully apreciated the delicate complexity of what he was doing when he ordered the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq?

This is the story. A truck driver is passing through Ohio. He gets pulled over by a cop (not sure if local or state) and the cops says he is going to cite him for tailgating or he can pay $100 immediately and be done with it. The truck driver says he doesn't have the money. The cop then takes the truckdriver's license and gives him a written note that says he must return to Ohio with $100 to get his license back. I cannot believe that this is legit. My thinking is that either the cop is crooked or the truckdriver made this up so that his wife (who pays the bills) will give him hooker money. Does anyone know if this sort of thing is legal for a cop?

not think it's ok to work together to provide health care for all of us together? We doing other stuff together, like schools, police, fire depts., roads, mass transit, public universities like the UC system or the UNC system, national/state parks, etc., etc. What's the big deal about being so hyper-individualistic?

I think people in any given situation often do whatever they percieve as best for them individually. For example many students in High School know they cannot be disciplined so they run wild, or poverty stricken Mexicans know they can get into the USA and work illegally and get away with it, so they do. Goverment needs to 'set the enviroment' people make their choices in, for better results. For example, if badly behaving students knew they would be effectivelly disciplined by their school it would no longer be in their best interests to misbehave. If illegal immigrants could not find employment due to prosecution of their employers, they would not come. I think problems can appear to be more difficult than they need be to solve through getting caught up in not seeing the wood for the trees and getting overwhelmed by the problem. With the 'top down' approach of 'setting the enviroment to produce a healthy result' many problems would largelly sort themselves out. Feedback?

If some people are for banning guns, because they can do damage, then why don't we ban political ideas too, as they can do far more damage than guns? aka the pen is mightier than the sword.

I was talking with man who believes there is good terrorism and bad terrorism .

He believes people who are opressed and only attack the military , police and government installations - is good terrorism .

Bad terrorism - Is attcking innocent civillains , school children etc .no matter how oppresed you are .

Do you believe there is good terrorism and bad terrorism ? Or does that not matter and all terrorism is the same ?
