When my father died, I had to sign my share of our home back to my mother despite the fact that dad had a will giving all assets to my mother. Is this law still in effect?

good or acceptable behavior by certain people and that is fine. But please tell me how you feel about this. We can send our 18 year old "children" to war - the government does - BUT we feel these "children" are too young to smoke or drink. I UNDERSTAND THE SMOKING AND DRINKING THIS IS BAD BUT -- my point is ---- WAR IS WORSE. Why are they considered adults only when the government decides they want them to be? This just totally blows me away. They may not get addicted to alcohol and if they did get addicted to smoking-if they chose to smoke - they could try and quit but they can't say "I changed my mind" once in Iraq and facing a quick and furious death. If you say they "chose to go to the service" - ok that is fine but the government ALLOWS them to make this choice. See my point?

Prisons should be terrible places where no one in their right minds would want to end up. That would surely help to reduce all the crime in the country. What d'ya reckon?

Why, when someone speaks out with an unpopular truth, that person is ridiculed? In addition to Al Gore, we have Ralph Nader and jerry Brown (remember him?) The now deceased Edward Said and Frenchman Pierre Salinger are two others who have been called fools. Are we the fools for not heeding their warnings.

It seems to me, that at some point in our nations history, we shifted from the "Land of Opportunity" to the "Land of Entitlement." All too often I hear folks complain that the government "owes" them, or the government should be "helping." This line of thought irks me.

I am going to throw this last part in, because I am concerned that this question might transition to some kind of racial or gender issue. Race or gender has nothing to do with my above thoughts. There are both women and men, white folks, african american folks, latino folks and on and on, who have have been proactive and acted as though America is a land of opportunity and made a great life for themselves. And there are all of the mentioned groups who have done the opposite; threw their lives away and yelled at the government for not helping.

(And please, I am aware that Hurricane Katrina was a debacle that didn't make this question easy to ask)

What are your thoughts?

For Years congress has been lax in their work ethic. Why haven't we voted every one of them out of office. We have the power to kick them out for not doing any work to benefit us. This congress has done nothing about immigration ,the war or any worthwhile legislation. Why do they not rein in this president and make him follow the law.
