Nothing is wrong with being politically correct--to an extent. Some people take it WAY too far though...

Political correctness implies that you can't do or say anything that might offend someone or hurt their feelings. Well, that is impossible. You can't control whether someone's feelings are hurt. They can read things into actions and statements that weren't even meant to be critical, but nonetheless, it isn't politically correct. What's more, political correctness stifles true discussion, again, because someone might be offended by something you say.
Instead of being a strong, resilient people, political correctness has turned us into a nation of victims. The court system is bogged down by politically correct suits. People sue at the drop of a hat, just because someone "offended" them in some way.
One common example of how political correctness has a very negative influence on society is how when a minority person or a woman does substandard work in a job, the employer has to be ssssoooooo careful how the person is reprimanded (or ignores the error completely) out of "fear" that the person might yell racism or sexism and all the repurcussions that come out of such accusations. Our politically correct society would tend to believe the claim out-of-hand...and so substandard business practices result.

The only problem with political correctness is when it goes to the point of being absolutely ridiculous. The basis for political correctness is the desire not to offend anyone at any time with conversational or written language and/or actions. Although it is a very good goal, it is almost impossible to achieve. It is like the old saying - you can't please all the people all the time!

There is not enough space on the internet to fully answer your question. Besides, it would take too long to type the answer out. A better phrasing of your question would have been "What is proper about political correctness?" The answer would have required only blank spaces.

You see that word "political"....when you see that word you will be correct about 97.962% of the time if you simply assume that anything that follows is a load of manure.
