Why, when someone speaks out with an unpopular truth, that person is ridiculed? In addition to Al Gore, we have Ralph Nader and jerry Brown (remember him?) The now deceased Edward Said and Frenchman Pierre Salinger are two others who have been called fools. Are we the fools for not heeding their warnings.

For those of you who are saying "let's wait for the scientists to reach a conclusion"... It was reached long ago. The only scientists who disagree with global warming are scientists paid for by coal and oil companies.
While Al Gore takes things to their greatest extreme, a lot of times that is the only way to make a point with Americans.
Bush does it all the time with terrorism. Gore is doing it with his issue.
Oh, and by the way here are the actual election results in Florida, in the study by the National Opinion Research Center:
Candidate Outcomes Based on Potential Recounts in Florida Presidential Election 2000:
Review Method Winner
Review of All Ballots Statewide (never undertaken)
• Standard as set by each county Canvassing Board during their survey
Gore by 171
• Fully punched chads and limited marks on optical ballots
Gore by 115
• Any dimples or optical mark
Gore by 107
• One corner of chad detached or optical mark
Gore by 60
Review of Limited Sets of Ballots (initiated but not completed)
• Gore request for recounts of all ballots in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Volusia counties
Bush by 225
• Florida Supreme Court of all undervotes statewide
Bush by 430
• Florida Supreme Court as being implemented by the counties, some of whom refused and some counted overvotes as well as undervotes
Bush by 493
Certified Result (official final count)
• Recounts included from Volusia and Broward only Bush by 537
So it all depends on how you look at it. But, it has been verified that if all statewide ballots had been recounted, Gore would have won. I have found two that say that vs. one that says Bush won - and that one conceded they didn't use the same extensive standards as the NORC - the most extensive survey of ballots performed.
Honestly, we should have scrapped the whole election in Florida and started over, and I'm not really trying to open a can of worms, but Gore isn't crazy to say he believes he took Florida. He has evidence to back him up.
By the way, why are Secretaries of State - the people who run elections - allowed to be Campaign Chairmen? That should definitely be illegal - and that's for all 50 states and both parties.

I'm not a fan of most politicians, of any party. But let us not forget that this man was Vice President. This is about the second most important job anyone can get in the US and he did it for years. He should be respected for that alone. Also let us also not forget that in 2000 he secured more votes than Bush. The majority of America voted for him to the president.
So to simply dismiss the guy is pretty idiotic.
Now he has an important cause, has written a book on it and made a movie on it. People find it easy to just write off what he has to say, but if there is even a 10% chance he is right we need to pay attention or this world will be in some serious trouble within a few decades.

I don't care for Al Gore or his politics, but I do not refer to him as a buffoon. He is extremist environmentalist and many of his conclusions have been legitimately challenged by mainstream scientists. Honestly, until the scientific community reaches a concensus on matters like global warming I don't think anyone's views should be dinegrated.
Pardon me WBrian_28 but yes there are other scientists who deny global warming, and no they don't all work for oil or coal companies. I will also have you remember that the same scientists who now scream the loudest about global warming are the same ones who were screaming we were entering a new ice age 20 years ago. There is no true concensus on this issue.
Answers - Just a quick clarification point. Runaway greenhouse emissions and global warming would cause an effect similar to Venus not Mars. Mars might actually become habitable with a large scale global warming effect.

Al Gore is no fool. Without immediate action to balance the CO2 and OXYGEN in our atmosphere, we are doomed. Our Planet will soon look like Mars, a big ball of dirt with nobody to play in it. All tree cutting must be stopped immediately and a rapid program of tree planting
started. Bring back The old "CCC" from the 30s. They
planted trees and fought forest fires.
Cars, Trucks, and Planes have got to stop the crazy polluting or park them. It's real serious, Folks, better pay attention.
