Several people have seen a picture of my horse and asked me if it is gaited. I know it has something to do with the way they walk but I'm not sure of specifics. Could someone explain it?

So I'm just wonderign after reading a question a girl asked about naming an appaloosa horse and seeing the negative responses she got regarding appys what is the big deal with you peopel that ahte them? I have owned several apps and will continueto ALWAYS have atleast one. So liek I said what is the deal? They are great athletes, have amazing stamina and have tons of personality to boot. They are loyal and try their hardest at everything you ask them to. the only thing I can think of is they are too smart for their own good a lot of times..... what is everyone's opinion?

I fell off on Saturday, landed on my side, then my head hit the ground. Luckily it was soft footing.
Every three hours I get a stinging pain at the place where I hit my head that lasts for about two minutes.
I didn't get a concussion (we called the doctor) and the rest of my body is fine (just a little sore.)
I'm replacing my helmet.

I figured some of you must have fallen and hit your head before, and might be able to offer some advice.

Where would I find a Clydesdale for sale, and how much a year/month would it cost to keep one healthy and happy?

I'm not a big fan of corn, because of mycotoxin poisoning. But, I know many feed corn and have fed corn for years w/o problems. I know it will really fatten up a horse. But, I've also seen several horses in the local Amish community die from mycotoxin poisoning from corn. So...I know there are two sides.

Because of the drought in our area, farmers are baling cornstalks and others are making silage...so for all of these people who have yet to buy hay, is corn silage a (relatively) safe option? Are the roundbales of cornstalks the same as silage? I've looked for resources and have come up short.

If you want the quick 2 points, please feel free to give me the "OMG no never" or the "Me & Paw fed corn for over 50 years" but what I really want are good research sites to question the vet about. Poor hay beats eating snowballs, but poisoning is another matter entirely.

There are going to be a lot of hungry horses around me this winter and it's a question of balancing risk.

I have a 20 year old QH gelding and and a 6 year old Mustang mare they are both hard keepers, we have tried alot of things but nothing seems to be working very well. My other horses are doing fine. they are all healthy, on a rotation worming schedule etc. i would like some opinions on what really works and what doesnt work well. I feed straight compressed Alfalfa hay, and a seminole spillers feed. A few things i have tried is Ultra Bloom by seminole, it didnt really do anything. i have tried corn oil, it hasnt made a difference either and they get soaked beet pulp as well. i want them to get fatter before it gets colder, please any suggestions.

i had a riding lesson today , but when we where cantering , my riding teacher made us sing a nursery rhym, we canterd in twos and we had to sing a rhym out , she says it helps the rider to realx and not make them feel nerous and the horse works better so called , she said she had to do it at college when they where jumping as they felt more realxed and the horses did not refuse the jumps , has anyone heard of this , or was she just having a laugh, because i felt stupid singing ride a cock horse to bramberry cross whilst i was cantering round

I just started giving lessons to some fellow boarders at my barn. They are 60 yr old twin sisters. Greener than grass.

They finally have bought 2 of their own horses and so now we are saddle fitting etc. I feel pretty knowledgable about fitting after everything I have been through with my mule. So I am helping them get the proper tack. One bought a circle Y flextree from a local saddle shop and it fits perfect. The other has a wide cob sized QH almost pony size and its proving to be a bugger to fit.

So for now, she is riding on my mules wide saddle. Until we get her set up. So today she shows up with a Tucker Saddle and the local saddle lady promised her it would fit. Well, it doesn't It is pinching into his muscular shoulders and has too much rock to it in the back. So I told her that.

Plus they bought a curb bit because someone told them that their 14 yr old horse, should be in a curb, when its in a snaffle its whole life.

Will add details

I know alot of you are going to say 'turn him in circles' or something of the sort, and trust me I've tried. Sometimes it works but he'll also move sideways really awkwardly instead of turning a lot of the time even when I crank his head around as far as I can, he's gotten good at jerking away before anyone can get his head around far enough for force him to stop going sideways and actually turn.

He only does it badly after jumps. He'll try to run away on the flat occasionally but he's easy to work down from that, after jumps he gets it set in his mind that he's jumping the next thing he sees and drags you towards that.

My daughter's trainer has suggested we buy a harbridge to help build up her horse's back muscle line by bringing his rear end up underneath him more. I can only find them for sale via the Internet in UK. Does anybody know anyplace in the US that sells them? Or an alternative piece of equipment that can accomplish the same purpose?? Anybody have any input about use of a harbridge. I have read some things that say horses have been known to flip themselves over in one. Kinda scary.

This winter I'm having a really hard time trying to pay for my horse. I get 40 dollars a month for allowance, and that still doesn't seem to be anough for hay, grain, wormer etc. My mom pays for one bag of grain- i the other- and the cost of trimming his feet. I'm just a kid that has to pay for about everything for my horse. I was saving my $110, then I had to spent it all on 4 small, crusty-edge round bales that lasts the horse about a week. I always ask my parents for horse stuff on Christmas, Birthday, etc. But a horse is alot of money for me. Maybe when I get older and get a job It'll be easier but for now, It's a struggle. what should I do? Any side-jobs that I can do? ( I live way out in the middle of nowhere though! ) Any suggestions.......??

I got this idea from another question on here. This is a horse memorial. Any horses that you have owned or loved that are no longer with us, list them here and let's all take a minute and remember our partners who have passed on.

These are mine:
Cold Report- unraced 2 year old
Miss Maple- race horse and brood mare
Kitiro- race horse
Farnley Glamor- Show/riding school pony
First Love- first pony
Minion- my rescue horse who was tragically murdered by vandals who broke into the farm one night
Hundred Acre Wood- First race horse to win a medical malpractice suit.

Not nessescarily money wise, but to build a good reputation in whatever field you chose to pursue?

Is it a base of well-chosen contacts?
Or been raised by a family in the horse business?
To have a degree?

Please assist me as I am really curious. Obviously some of the above things would really help, but what are the key things you have found?

Just for fun- would you rather ride in super-hot weather or in a freezing snowstorm? I know there both bad, but which would you choose and why? P.S I vote cold :)

We have a quarter horse and a morgan, both are over 20,we got them this spring after we purchased a small farm. The morgan started getting out ,at first it was kinda funny since I was in the proccess of rebuilding the fences and took it as his way of telling me where I needed to work first, but,in the past month or so we can't keep him in any longer. He knows that if he steps onto the wire it'll give at some point,if he leans on a wooden post it will snap,a metal post will bend.Electric fence tickles him, shock collar doesn't faze him either,I hated to try it but I finaly did.I confused him by temporarly using ply-wood in the corral fence where I put him when the farreir comes, but we can't afford to line a 20 acre pasture fence with ply-wood . He's a great horse other than this problem.Right now I have a cable at just above head level that I can move around and anchore,I hook the lead to that and he moves around eating and so on.But the local animal lovers froup is throwing a fit about it.
