My beloved old gelding associates music with "something's going on, we're going someplace, better start strutting my stuff" because most events we used to go to had some type of music going on.
A few years ago, I bought 2 wild yearlings (cheap, but wow, they were lookers) and they would jump at any noise. They would scare each other. They were locked up separate from my other horses and I was out painting the barn one day and had Enya playing. I noticed the yearlings were standing relaxed and half asleep. So I would play that type of music around them, and I swear, it helped me tame them down. I am more of a Waylon Jennings fan, but I think Enya was like therapy for horses.

I dont play music for my horses but when im out hacking alone i sing to him. If he gets a little worked up about something and is nervous and tense the singing really does calm him down and relax him. But the looks you can get from passing people is not always ones of understanding if you know what i mean lol.

My horses love music. I play a radio all the time for them. The barn where used to board did the same thing.
I used to belong to a drill team that performed to music and could be the reason they like it.

Yes they love music and you can create a mood for your horse with different types of music. They respond to sounds just like people - sometimes even more so because they are so sensitive.

In our barn we have a stereo system throughout it. When it is one and a slow quiet type of music the horses are very relaxed, more so than when it is off. If someone puts on a heavy loud music they get restless.

I used to sing German Lieder to my horses as I did my stable chores. They were especially fond of Schubert.
I figured they liked the music because they would drift off to "slumber" after only a few minutes - even though this was a stable full of fractious horses. I would start singing in German and they'd calm down almost immediately.

my horse loves it. He especially loves country music. I can tell because when it is on and his stall is being cleaned he puts his ears forward to listen better and moves his head a little with the music. If you watched him you could tell how happy he was.

i play music in the barn when cleaning stalls, and they seem to care less, now if im riding in the arena and i put it on a station say classic rock or rock, they get antsy and i think they associate that with the barrel races, because during the runs, they play music and its usually a fast paced rock song. when im in the barn playin music its usually laid back mellow jam bands. :o)
