I fell off on Saturday, landed on my side, then my head hit the ground. Luckily it was soft footing.
Every three hours I get a stinging pain at the place where I hit my head that lasts for about two minutes.
I didn't get a concussion (we called the doctor) and the rest of my body is fine (just a little sore.)
I'm replacing my helmet.
I figured some of you must have fallen and hit your head before, and might be able to offer some advice.

I would go see another doctor- it sounds like a form of concussion. There are a ton of different types.
I have fallen and hit my head numerous times w/o a helmet (that is why I always where a helmet now- it saved my life more than once).
I have gotten swelling in that area, nasty bruises, and a constant low grade headache, but never a migraine type stinging pain, that comes and goes, especially for a couple days. My headaches were constant and lasted 48 hrs max.
That part worries me- sounds more like an anerysm or brain swelling of some sort. Definately call your doctor (or another one) and get their opinion.

I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but I am a college student going into respiratory therapy and I have been told by anatomy instructors that childrens skulls are thicker and tougher than people our age. My daughter fell off the toilet about a week ago and smacked her head on the door. I gave her some childrens motrin and just watched her for the next few hours. I think you son will be fine. If he has a headache give him something for it. Play some games with him or take him outside and run around the house a few times. It happens to the best. Good luck!

I've had concussion before and just about split my helmet and still not had any symptoms like you are describing. Also broke my nose and again, apart from the obvious throbbing, no long lasting effects like that. I would go to the ER so that you can get a CAT scan.
Just a note but my father hit his head standing up under some farm machinery and he said it hurt at the time but didn't appear to be a big deal. Two weeks later, when he kept getting pains in his head, it was found that he had partially detached retinas resulting from the blow to his head which required surgery. It's always best to have a CAT scan after an blow to the head. Good luck!

You really need to see a doctor, take it from me, I was galloping and I fell off. My head bounced off the ground, luckly there were 3 doctors at my 4-H county fair. I had a bad migrane for a day or so plus i got whip lash. I wish I'd gone to the doctor because I'm still sore from that fall and that was a year ago. See a doctor and relax for a while, don't do anything stressful. Normally my parents hide my saddle and bridle from me and ban me from the stables and they make me do things, a good example, i just fell a week ago at a show, i brused my hip pretty bad at the joint so basically, I'm studying for SAT's and looking online about training tips. I only have 1 more week till I can ride. 8D

I'm in agreement with everyone else about seeing a doctor asap. I also recomend visting a Chiroprator. Chiropractic care will help reset your spine from the concussion given by the fall. Any changes to your spince can have adverse reactions to the rest of your body, reactions that medicine alone can't fix. See a doctor, see a Chiropractor. You'll be amazed. The pain in your head could be due to pressure on a nerve caused by subluxation of a vertebrae.
My expierance in all this? Many falls have affected my spine, as well as one serious kick to the hip. after having doctors say, "take these pills" and not getting any real relief, Chiropractic has really helped me.

I'd go to the Dr just to be on the safe side. i had a fall a few years ago where my mare flipped head over heels ontop of me and i hit the back of my head just at the base of my skull. No concyussion but about a day altter I started having twinges of pain every so often I never saw a Dr but wish I had. Now almost 5 years later I STILL get these twinges right at the base of my skull. It almost feels like it's burning. Still haven't been to a Dr and I really should go. So please don't treat this lightly. ANY kind of head injury should be seen about, no matter how mild you feel it was.

I think that maybe you should call your doctor and stop in to see him or her. I've taken some REALLY hard falls on my head and I've never experienced what you are describing. Good luck and I hope you feel better. Always wear your helmet =]

I've road since I was 2 I'm know 19 and I have fallen of numerous times, from young horses I've had road rash on my arms, a sore bum, and a sprained ankle, and the only time I ever went to a doctor was the day after my barrel horse fell around third and broke my leg. I don't believe in paying a doctor to look at every bump and bruise. Its part of horses if your going to ride, your going to fall off it's just when and how bad, in other word rub some dirt on it (not literally) and cowgirl up. But maybe I'm just crazy.

You might have a pinched nerve in your neck. Could be just a bruise, muscle strain, caused by the helmet and impact. Can't tell you how many times I came off as a novice, pre helmet days. Mount up, ride on!
