So whenever I'm looking at someones questions I always see sooo many differening answers and opinions-- and along with them I see other people immediatly say that they are wrong (on controversial issues such as when to geld, how often to shoe, and certain ways of training) and then the person gets a thumbs down....

But don't you think that with horses many many things are based on how the person learned to ride and learned how to care for horses... There are so many different ways that we all have learned, none necessarily right or wrong. Training and caring for horses are very controvesial topics....Just because someone gives different advice on how to train a spooky horse or whatever doesn't mean that they are wrong...

Anyone else notice this and agree somewhat?

We recently purchased a horse. He is a 16 hand quarter horse, and reminds me of Donald Duck. Since purchasing him, we have discovered he is a biter. His original Daddy used a strap on him to modify behavior. We try not to smack him, but it seems to be he only has respect for that stupid piece of leather. He knocked my girl friend's daughter clean out of her shoes, and bit her three times. My hubby went to get her shoes at which time he attempted to do the same to him. I got hubby's belt, showed it to the horse, got the shoes, and the horse did not even look at me. He is only three years old and I can not help to think that he is not to old to have this behavior modified. Problem is, we live in Nowhere Arizona, and there are no trainers for at least 300 miles. We have 4 other horses that do not behave in this manner and have no clue where to start. ( Any comments about turning him into dog food can be kept to yourself).

My horse does not neck rein. I've only used hackamores on horses that neck rein and can't see how they'd work on a horse that doesn't. He absolutely hates a bit, I've tried differnet types but when he has a bit in his mouth he gets such anxiety he can't even think, I've had his teeth checked by two different vets and they say hes' fine. He is a very sensitive horse and has had other issues due to past abuse. What would be the drawbacks of using a hackamore??

A friend of mine is looking @ buying a horse, and the seller says that he has screw bone disease. He is sound now and performing well, but she is wanting to know how long that will last. In my 30+ yrs experience with horses- I have no clue. I'm hoping someone knows what it is or the proper name for it, so she knows what she is getting into. Thanks in advance!

of owning a very special horse. I had a horse in high school, but she wasn't the 'special' one. I went to college then joined the Air Force. Then, after months of searching, I found him - the special one. He was an 8 year old bay Arabian gelding. To me he was spectacularly gorgeous but the best thing about him was his personality - and how FUN he was to ride! He was affectionate, spirited, willing and extremely well behaved. We shared thousands of hours on the trails. We had great adventures. We saw amazing sights. We had 26 incredible, wonderful years together. I retired him when he turned 31 but we still hung out together. Then on Jan. 6, Pharoh was out in his pasture and another horse kicked him - broke his leg. Just like that, he was gone. He was 34 and still very healthy. I probably won't get another horse, I'm nearly 50 and out of shape. But mostly because I'll never find another Pharoh. I just wanted to share him with people who would know how I feel. Thanks for listening.

I work on a farm with 31 thoroughbreds and a lot of them stick their tongues out the side of their mouths and keep it there. It's like they're sticking their tongue out at me on purpose! Why do they do that and do the thing with the top lip where they fold it up? I heard something about them smelling hormones from other horses. But why do they do that when I am around them?
