I ~do~ have ten horses in my backyard, and let me tell you honey, I hope you have a thick wallet and a big bank account, plus lots of help.

Ten horses is 3-4 hours minimum of work, and that is the grungy daily stuff, not riding or showing or any of the fun stuff.

My parents had a Quarter Horse breeding farm when I was growing up we had any where from 55 to 75 horses in our backyard. The best was when you woke up early, teh sun was just coming up, there is that light morning mist and the mares and foals were all out grazing. I loved that time of year when the foals were born, ie was the greatest thing.

NOT ME!!!

Let's see -- 10 horses at 2 acres per horse (MINIMUM pasture needed) that's 20 acres -- a BIG yard. Plus fencing, a barn, storage for hay and bedding, tools and equipment for maintaining the pasture, barn and fencing. And then you need to take CARE of 10 horses, including shoveling out the stalls. And grooming. I won't even go into the EXPENSE!!

You'd be sooooo busy that you'd never have TIME to ride. And if you did have time, you'd be too exhausted.

No thanks. Although I love horses as much as anyone, two is PLENTY for me -- and even then, I prefer to BOARD them, so someone else can do the work!

I do have 10+ in my backyard and it is wonderful to have them there but boy the work it produces. Be careful of what you wish for because it isn't always as great as it seems. It takes a while to feed, brush and care for 10 horses and it has to be done everyday~ blazing hot, freezing cold, pouring rain, blizzard, hurricane and even when you're sick. It's a big commitment to own a horse and with 10 it's tenfold!
