Does anybody know of a good sheath cleaning solution? I heard one that involved liquid dove and some other ingredients. I don't like excalibur because I find that it isn't very effective. Also if anyone knows any tricks to get "it" down besides sedation or coaxing, I would be immensely appreciative. Thanx.

We had a donkey and 3 miniature horses, a regular size horse and a new miniature foal. The donkey was in its own fenced in area, the regular size horse was in its own area, and the male miniature horses were in an area seperate from the mare and her foal. Well, when I went out to check on the miniature foal, I found out that the donkey had pulled her head threw a hole in the fence and had stomped it to death. There is also a 2-year-old living there, so we unfortunately had to shoot the donkey because of the danger with the infant. I just wanted to know if this was the right thing to do, and I could NOT of given away the donkey because of the dangers to children and other horses.

For all the "save the horses" people out there. ALL of you for the ban, I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS FOR YOU.

HAVE YOU????

1. Added your local rescue or retirement home to your expense record and cut them a good sized check every month?

2. Have you gone out and "rescued" one to care for, for its entire life?

3. Have you started any fund raisers or done anything to help all the horses out there?

4. Did you make a stand on the starving horses in Burns, OR? WE POSTED IT SEVERAL TIMES HERE, NEVER GOT MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF RESPONSES.

Or, do you just keep yelling stop the slaughter and figure the rest is up to others to deal with???????

IF, YOU CAN ANSWER YES TO EACH ANSWER.....GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! IF YOU CAN'T, WELL, JUST ZIP IT AND GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING TO "SAVE THE HORSES"!

I was just wondering if you had a funny blooper moment with horse and thought it was funny to share with the general puplic?

For myself, I am a city guy with limited contact with horses. When I was a teenager, I remember going out to my friend's grandfather's farm. There was a horse tied to the post out there. Approaching the horse from behind, I started to pet him at the lower back. My friend said, "Don't pet horses from behind." Then I said why? And the very next second, wham that horse back kicked me in the shin. Luckily, it didn't hurt too bad and he didn't kick me any higher!:0

Trial and error, the only way I learn on a farm.

I am guessing that most of you that are posting about how wrong horse slaughter is are either teens or non-informed people.

Horse slaughter houses have closed down in the US. Now, if the horses are sold for killer buyers, they are shipped to Canada and Mexico, which is still very little due to the paperwork needed to get horses across the border. So let me reinterate to you all that don't understand. Very small amount of horses are being slaughtered.

Now, for those of you that are doing your happy dance because the houses were closed, let me tell you what I see.

Starving, broken legged, sick, diseased horses going through sale barns and no saleing. So that means, that horse gets loaded up thrown back into the same condition it came from and dies a slow painful death. Tell me please, how that is any better than what they suffered at the slaughter houses?

Also tell me please, your proposal to fix this situation that you all have so carelessly created? I'm waiting...

Horse slaughter is so wrong! How could someone kill an innosent animal! And whats worse is that its for human consumpion over seas! I heard that they were going to make it a law that horse slaughtering is illigal with american horses. but i never herd if they exepted that law. So that is what i whant to know. If you dont know allot about horse slaughtering you should go to the Perfect harmony animal rescue and sanctuary website and on the left side there is a bunch of links and one of them says horse slaughter click on there and read about it. it is just awfull! And if you whant look and some of the pictures too. How could people do that to an animal?

When i was younger i was an apprentice at a local horse stable in my town for five years. I had always loved horses and had a great passion for them. I bought and owned a horse for about three years until family propblems arose and she had to be sold. I was 17 then and seemed to care more about partying anyways so i let it go. Now the partying days are over i'm 22 and stuck in a dead end job i hate. I'm married but no kids thank god. I have a mortgage two cars and live in a suburban hell. I can't think of any way to refocus on the career i threw away. I have to have my job to paybills, but work leaves little time for any hobbies other then house work. I'm miserable and depressed all the time now and my heart aches to be with horses again. I'm at a loss and don't know what to do or how to cope. My ultimate dream would be to have my own stable or ranch and teach kids to ride and get involed with horses, but i can't think of anyway to get there. I need help... any suggestions?

I've been riding horses for five years but I don't feel like I'm any good. The highest I've jumped is 2 feet 9 inches and I know how to canter but I get really self conscious when I'm riding in a group with people who are better than me. I have low self esteem. I'm just wondering from what I've told you do you think I'm a good horse back rider?

How much should I plan on spending per month per horse?

How much could you expect to

My gelding is turning 23yrs old and I was thinking of having a b-day party for him, the people coming are primarily children. I know it sounds weird, but I am a stay at home mom and have some extra time on my hands to plan something like this. He is a very good natured horse so I am not worried about him around the kids. What do you think? Do you have any ideas of activities?

I LOVE riding barback, and bareback pads have always looked like fun to me but I have never tried one. Are they a good investment? Do they make it easier to ride and is the difference in comfort worth the cost?

He is the horse I bought for my 8 year old granddaughter one year ago. I would call his ground manners great, and greenbroke on riding. He follows her as if he is on a lead, and she is doing an admirable job of establishing respect. The problem has only occurred a few times, but I am not talking love nips, he bit me on the arm while he was acting like he wanted his face time. He has never done this to anyone except me. I had to slow my granddaughter down on his treats, and have never yelled, but used a firm voice with her when she is out of bounds with any of the horses. They are very bonded, could it be he thinks he is protecting her? I feel almost silly saying that, but sometimes that is what it feels like. The only new thing is he has always been in submission to two older geldings, and we now have two fillies [yearlings] and he is aware that he isn't at the bottom of the pecking order. He nips at them, mostly playfully. This is an infrequent thing.,

I am looking to buy a new saddle for my horse, who I bought about 4 years ago with all of her tack. Can anyone tell me maybe a good website to learn how to size her for a saddle? Or if you want you can just explain it yourself? I do not know how complicating it will be and for some reason I could not find a website on it. Also would it be possible for me to take my old saddle to the place where I am buying the new one and base the measurments on my old saddle? Any information would be great! Thanks!
