I think I get what you mean by female gelding...a castrated mare?

Anyways, here's a few pages that you can check out. You can see/find more by typing in horses fo sale in Tennessee in the google bar (I'd like to let everyone know that you can use GoodSearch, select Eye Of The Storm Equine Rescue (Stow,MA) as the beneficiary--everytime you do this goes to the rescue I work at!!).

Join the Yahoo Group tntrailhorseriders they often have cheap horses in the Middle TN area that are good with kids and I know at least 2 people had horses for sale in the last couple of days on there. I wasn't sure what you meant by a female gelding... Horse people don't "geld" mares or in any way make female horses infertile.

First, I would find out that gelding is a guy horse that has beed gelded, hence gelding. A female horse is usually a mare or filly. Then look around town and ask other horse people. Also get lessons and stuff, because there is now ay you should own a horse if you can't tell the differnec between a gelding and a mare.

I always tell people that are looking for horses or any other animal to check out a rescue agency first. Equine Rescues usually have plenty of horses to chose from. These rescue agencies want you to be happy with your horse so you will not be misled. Also if the horse doesn't work out most Equine Rescues Agencies will exchange the horse for you. Equine Rescue Agencies may even deliver the horse to you depending on where you are located. Plus you can visit the horse of your choice several times and not feel bad that you are in "the deciding mode" Just Google Equine Rescues in your state. The best part is most of the rescue horses are under $1,000.
Good Luck.

You cannot find a horse on the internet. As my father would say, "don't buy a pig in a poke" - this hokey saying means, don't buy something without getting a good look at it in person.

Go talk to the barn owners in your area about your experience level and your facility. Try out a LOT of horses to find the one that fits your needs and personality. Ask to see its papers if it is registered. Have a vet look the horse over to make sure it doesn't have chronic lameness problems and make sure it is the age the seller says it is. Horse traders have a bad reputation for not telling the buyer the whole truth about a horse. (they will cheat you if they think you are naive)

Don't be in a rush. Pay close attention to the horses personality, training and health.

Good luck

A good place to look is rescue places. The animals there have been through alot and want a loving home. Most horses there are great with kids. Also www.petfinder.com is also pretty good and has alot of horses that need homes. I am sure there are many horse breeders in Tennessee that are looking for homes for there horses. Well I hope this helped you out and good luck with what ever new horse you get!

I know this isn't what you want to hear but horses are huge commitments and require a LOT of time, space, money and more. I suggest you read up a bit more and get your kids and yourself started in lessons before you buy. It's good to at least know basics-- ie: what male and female horses are called, before you buy. Plus, I wouldn't want you to be tricked into buy a horse online that doesn't suit you or your children best!

Look in the ads in your local newspaper. They sometimes have horses advertised in there. Or ask around to friends and family and see if anyone knows of someone selling a horse.
