Have you done it and what were the reasons that you did?

Would you do it if needed again?

I have seen it done 3'xs. 2 were great results, the other was a moron that had no business touching horses.

I am all for it for the correct reasons, but not to bypass proper training.

Just wanted to hear others ideas.

For those of you who read my story about the little abused horse I took in another question. He died a few hours ago, my fault I work pla around with him in the round pen almost every evening, I left him alone to go water a tree and he stuck his head through the a corral panel and got his halter hung on a pin that connects the pannels. He panicked ulled back and ost his footing and fell hard on his side, and broke his neck. Everyone please feel free to tell me what a bad mistake I made, God knows ive been telling myself that since it happened.

My horse is an 11 year old quarter horse/appaloosa gelding. REcently I went on a trip to Oregon, and when I got back, the person who was supposed to be taking care of him had lunged him twice. This is the same person who sold him to me. This horse has really small heals, and has the hardest mouth of all the horses I have ever ridden. I have also found when I ride him on the trails, he comes of lame with stone bruises. He has alot of energy and is 16.1 hands. He cant jump, all he is good for now is riding in an arena. I want to trail ride thogh with my friends but I cant becauaswe he is always lame. HELP The seller took advantage of me and my mom and still takes advantage of me. I asked her to work with him for the week that I was in Oregon, you know, riding and stuff, she lunged him TWICE!!!!!!!! What do you think, any answer is going to be very helpfull to me. This is the first horse I have ever owned. Peace

Have you seen the horses that pull carriages on City streets, the tourist rides?

How is it for those horses pulling a carriage on hard pavement? Are the horses treated well? Overworked?

One reason I ask is because I recently saw one of these horses in between rides. He was taking his weight off of one back leg, and then taking his weight off the other back leg, repeatedly. I was wondering if he was having pain in his back legs of huff?

As you all know I just got a Mule which I love! Whenever I tell one of my horse friends that I got her they give me this look of disgust and kind of turn up there nose! One of my coworkers actually said "what possesed you to buy an ugly mule". I of course shot back that my mule would outride any horse she had (which is true :) ) ! How do you Mule owners handle the ignorance about these wonderful animals? It really ticks me off!!!

I need a few elegant and graceful sounding show names for my new sport horse mare.
She's almost a palomino in color with a small star on her forehead. 16.2 hands at 6 years old. Very sweet natured.

My dad has a whitish-gray standard bred horse named Snowflake.

I went to watch her race Saturday night & she won!!

Anyway.. She seems to get nervous around me & I want to make her like me.. Any tips?
Or do you think she was just stressed out after her race the night before?

Also, does any one know where I can buy some books on Harness horses? I'd like to get my Grooms License.

my mom grew up riding western but decided to take english lessons for a while. we all fell in love with the horse she was taking lessons on and ended up buying him. he's a 15 year old 16hh Thoroughbred gelding. so, we bought a dressage saddle and english bridle and saddle pad. but we've ridden him western while he was still at his former owner's house ('cause he wouldn't get in the trailer). he's trained both ways and mom wants a western saddle for him. but we don't know how to measure for a western saddle. the lady we bought him from told us but we can't remember and mom hasn't talked to her for a long time. please! How do you measure a horse for a western saddle?

Well everyone..my barrel horse is crippled. His stifle was so injured that the vet would not even do surgery. Plus, come to find out he is closer to 20 yrs old then 10 yrs old as I was told. Nope, I don't have papers on him and I can't tell age by looking at teeth, I didn't really care, he was a good horse! He can be ridden but only at a walk. Absolutly on trotting or running. I have been in a bad mood but I made a very hard desion for him. He is going to a friend that wants him to be his yard decoration. He will be loved and cared for untill he dies.

Thank you all that gave me great ideas to rehab him but it just won't for him.

I know this is not a question but I promised that I would update everyone.

People keep asking about horse slaughtering, and a lot of people are answering horse are being over bred, and thier are a lot of back yard breeders. I don't get this people are acting like they are being over bred by back yard breeders like dogs are. I don't see this at all here in New Egnland. Horse are a lot harder to breed than dog. Is this a problem in other states or are people talking about things they know nothing about.
I have been around horses for 16 years i know a lot horse probaly over a hundred. But I can count on one hand how many of them ever bred thier mare. And these were big time show horses. And these people spent thousands on stud fees, vet care. And spent many hours perepering for it. I just don't get people saying horses are over bred by back yard breedsers.

Everyone is talking about a shortage of hay this winter which doesn't worry me because the farms here in Lexington, KY will just ship it in from Canada but it will drive the price up. I've just bought a ton for my own horse (not work) and paid $5.25 per bale. Wondered what the situation was elsewhere, how much you are paying and what state?
Thanks

Just to stoke the fire a little, I'm curious as to how many support the ban or are opposed to it. I don't want long winded justifiction for your opinion either, a simple "Yes I support it" or "No I don't" will suffice. We are being purely scientific now and I would like to see how much the community is divided on this subject.

I have answered to many questions in which people are hating the fact that horses are slaughtered. So, I have decided to ask this question, why doesn't anyone open there eyes to what they have done by passing the bill? There are now countless numbers of horses in overcrowded semi's going all the way to mexico. At least here in america we could regulate what is going on, but in mexico, we have no control of what they are doing to the horses. So I hope that everyone who has there nose stuck way up in the air will read this and maybe open there eyes! I'm tired of explaining that so many horses are crippled and sick and beyond help, and have no place to go. A few months ago, I had to go to the only open slaughter house in america, and I'm not saying it was pleasureable, but I saw a crippled mare there that had a foal that night! Who would breed the poor mare? Stupid people thats who! ( the foal went to a good home, or i would have taken it!) I wish people would open there eyes...

What is the latin word for the word
"Place"
and
"Race"

I'm trying to think of a Cross Country slogan using something similar to "Carpe Diem" only, day would be either race or place. Can someone help?? And please don't be rude and say a rude word in latin that I don't understand, please give me the real word. I'm only a kid, and this is just for a t-shirt slogan. Thanks a bunch! ^-^
